Ram Dass once said,

“The most important aspect of love is not in giving or the receiving: it’s in the being.”

Forgiveness lives in that being.
It’s not something you can force.
Not something you can manufacture with words.
It arrives, if it arrives, like a slow dawn breaking over years of night.

We think forgiveness means excusing.
We think it means pretending it didn’t hurt.
We think it means saying, It’s okay, when it wasn’t.

But real forgiveness is different.
It’s not about forgetting.
It’s not about letting someone off the hook.
It’s about setting yourself free from carrying the hook inside your own heart.

Because the truth is, resentment is heavy.
It eats away at you long after the other person is gone.
It tightens your chest.
It steals your breath.
It builds walls where you wanted doors.

Forgiveness isn’t about them.
It’s about you...

“Self-evaluation and self-criticism are, basically, neurotic tendencies which derive from our not having enough confidence in ourselves, confidence in the sense of seeing what we are, knowing what we are, knowing that we can afford to open. We can afford to surrender that raw and rugged neurotic quality of self and step out of fascination, step out of preconceived ideas.” Chogyam Trungpa

"No matter who we are or what we possess, the only thing that really matters is letting go of attachment and making room for presence of mind. In order to let go, the most important thing to understand is that our attachments are nothing other than empty awareness. If you regard them as ornaments adorning the space of your mind, it is easier to let them arise and let them go. Recognizing that everything arises from the same insubstantial awareness, just let whatever arises return to its source. In this way, attachments and conflicts will resolve themselves."
