How do I know that?

The last part. LONGEVITY.

That's what we are all desperately seeking when we try a new workout trend or fad diet.

Being a Cardioaholic will not add muscle, or strength to the other muscles around your body besides your heart.

You need more strength and muscle to get you through the long haul.

If you're over the age of 35 you're losing 1% of your muscle mass every year.

LONGEVITY is the end game. The point where you age gracefully, stronger, have less health problems, have less physical injuries and future pain as a result.

You also want to live longer and harder. No one really wants to be forced to slow down.

A woman I had never met overheard me telling a friend about having just eaten at 3pm.

This is not usual for me by any means, and to be honest I was having a day emotionally, which compounded to me not taking care of myself.

"๐˜–๐˜ฉ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต'๐˜ด ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ ๐˜ด๐˜ฌ๐˜ช๐˜ฑ๐˜ฑ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฌ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ต ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ" as she smiled gleefully.

That's all this woman had to say for me to stop valuing the rest of her words and opinions.

Women should not be congratulating each other for skipping meals or disordered eating, period.

As I'm writing this I'm wondering if she was inferring that I could go with skipping some meals.

In missing meals I had brain fog and low energy and low zest for life.

Hardly a state of being I should have been congratulated on.

I decided not to say anything or speak up as it would fall on deaf ears as I am fairly certain she's projecting her own battles.

But just so YOU know.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SKIP MEALS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO STARVE YOURSELF.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

I put the pressure on them, because I felt it was time.

Both had new spaces, places and situations and both had gained a little bit in the process of adjusting, nothing earth shattering.

But no one is pumped when the scale goes up right?

So I said here is the deal. In 2 weeks give me "X" amount of weight lost on the scale.

In that 2 weeks the weight loss has to come from behaviors of properly fueling your body, not starvation.

Both overachieved in a healthy manner.

Knowing when to coach soft and harder is a delicate balance especially when my main goal is to promote strength and positive behavior changes.

There truly is more to life than weight loss.

But my goals aren't the only that matter. I have these people's goals written down and words etched in my head.

Sometimes we need someone to say "sh*t of get off the pot."

I know I do.

Shoutout to the two of you who accepted the challenge and crushed.

Notice I was missing?

I was sick for an extended period of time and my energy level was low, low.

Then there was my mental health which also took a hit.

Being newly engaged I should have been on a magic carpet ride, but instead I became stressed, depressed and less active.

Bet that sounds familiar?

It's safe to say that I am pulling myself out of it (as we cross things off the wedding list) and as I am FORCING myself to work out and chill the F out.

Here is how it went.

๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ: During my workout I kept telling myself this was the ONLY thing I had to complete to "win the day" and it was a struggle 50% of the time but I did it.

๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ: I again forced myself into the gym, but on this day I felt like I had less of a mental struggle.

๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ‘: REST DAY- I told my friends how I noticed I was starting to feel better mentally as well as physically.

๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ’: Samesies.

๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ“: CRUSHED MY WORKOUT.

In less than 5 days I have turned my world around and also dropped 2 lbs from the scale.

It took 2 days of mental toughness and perseverance.

I know that's all it takes when I get in the hole.

My fiance and my mom also called me on it.

I'm not the only one this works for.

Don't give up.

Last week's vacation included so many memories and incredible views.

Our first stop was a hot springs in western utah after a long drive.

The idea of "wasting" an hour when we are on the road (crushing miles) to literally sit in a sulphuric pool of water is always worth the benefits.

We took in the views and petroglyphs at Capitol Reef National Park.

We hit part of Canyonlands National Park. The snow had a lot of roads closed in between units so we have to go back!

We camped under the stars in Moab and did some 4WD driving to dinosaur tracks, and then we rock crawled into Arches National Park.

My favorite thing about traveling with Riley is that we are both okay with going off the beaten path to visit a place we have never been before, our thought process is always "what if we are never here again?"

That train of thought brought us through the Colorado National Monument and if you are ever driving I-70 I recommend going off piste for this even if you just drive through.

We concluded our trip with Riley's cousin's wedding in Colorado where we made more memories with family and did a lot of dancing.

After so much initial wedding planning we both needed a break.

We may have just accidentally extended a trip in May...2 months till DC!

Get outside. Put your phone down and reconnect with why you are here on earth.

Raye is one of my bomb in person training clients who came to me post surgery and PT from a snowboarding accident last year.

Raye reached out to me because she wanted to develop a healthy relationship with her body and nutrition as she gets older.

She wanted to create healthy habits and learn how to lift weights so that she could be stronger both PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Raye is in her early 20's and I applaud her for knowing it was time to invest in and educate herself on her future health.

Training hasn't been easy for Raye due to her injury which resides on her arm near elbow land w/a lot of hardwear .

Certain movements are painful and so we had to navigate around those hurdles and found better solutions.

I was slaying training in the gym this fall/early winter.

Consistently hitting 3-4 lifts a week. You should see my quads!

Mid December I got strep throat that wouldn't go away.

I did 2 rounds of antibiotics and I'm still feeling low on energy and generally crummy every day and in pain at the end of a work day.

I've been able to get in 2 Full Body workouts a week since feeling icky.

That's literally the best that I can do right now because I still have to show up to train my awesome clients and work at the winery.

I'm not feeling up to training the way I was yet- which to be honest is the worst but I'm listening to my body.

I'm also focusing on my nutrition because that is 80% of the equation to fat loss.

"๐˜ˆ๐˜ฃ๐˜ด ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฌ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ" is no joke!

So if you've read this far and face hurdles like these that impede your ability to train like you want to then I encourage you to do these 3 things.

This day was more like a 4 hour tour that included frustration, gear issues, ugly laughs, deep pow, endless wipeouts and a few phenomenal face plants.

For nearly 2 hours we chugged uphill on Mt. Hood in our XC skis because our orignal gentle XC destination was full.

We bobbed. We weaved.

We ended up on an uphill adventure that none of us had planned on, but we all stuck it out.

We even braved the downhill ungroomed portion, which if you've ever gone downhill in XC skis.... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

We had varying skill levels, wax levels and experience that would not stop us from creating the best memories together.

Hell, half of us thought we were only going XC skiing to slay a few christmas trees. Not a 4 hour adventure. ๐Ÿคฃ

My favorite ski days and hikes have always involved other people in order to achieve a magical level.

Make the time and effort to connect and reconnect with the outdoors and the people in them.

Take the time to talk to the other people you pass on the trail and learn one thing about them.

Challenge yourself to try a new activity.

Remind yourself of the struggle!

This holiday season I am thankful to have a fabulous community that keeps on growing.

As a matter of fact my avoidance of most lower body exercises because they were hard actually put me in a postion where my lower body was deconditioned despite being the lowest weight I'd ever been.

So I went to physical therapy, I asked for help and I started to change how I was working out.

These were the things that were happening to me physically & mentally prior to taking action & making a change.

It's not comfortable, it's stuck. It's a downward slope that only leads to being able to do much, much less.

I wasn't comfortable feeling unable to compete with myself and friends in the outdoors so I took action.

I weigh more than I have in a few years, but I'm the strongest physically I have ever been as I near 37 years of age.

That means more to me.
