ATEL Tech Time is a program focusing on helping to bridge the digital divide of older adults and individuals with disabilities. Technology has changed so much over the past few years that now instead of needing a special piece of equipment, there is an App for that, or a built in Accessibility Feature that can make smartphones or tablet benefit almost everyone.

To sign-up for a 30-minute individual session on July 31st, please contact Richmond Human Services at 401-491-9824 or e-mail: humanservices@richmondri.gov

Over the last two days, we received more reports of scams from people in the community.

The scams involved fake emails disguised as legitimate PayPal, Department of Elderly Affairs, and Social Security Administration emails.

One victim has incurred a loss of over $93,770 and the other victims now have a fraudulent HELOC account totaling more than $145,000.

If you have older family members or friends who utilize their computer, but may not be technically savvy; please make them aware of these phishing emails and to not call any numbers within the contents of the email.

Never wire money to someone you don't know.

Never deposit money into a bitcoin machine.

Never leave cash for an unknown party to pick up.

They can have life-altering financial consequences. Many of these crimes are preventable. If you ever have any questions about the legitimacy of an email, or transfer of money; please contact your local Police Department or financial institution directly.
