Before you eat anything, ask yourself these three questions…

1.) Am I physically hungry?

If yes, go ahead and eat something. Pick the healthiest option available that’s also delicious for you.

If no, go on to the next question.

2.) Am I trying to make myself feel better by eating?

If no, consider what’s driving you to eat right now when you aren’t hungry.

If yes, go on to the next question.

3.) What else can I do right now that will help me to feel better that doesn’t involve food?

Whatever you come up with, do that thing.

If it helps you feel better and you don’t need to eat afterwards, great!

If you decide that you still want to eat after you do the thing you came up with in question 3, go ahead and eat.

As you eat, bring hyper awareness to your eating.

Notice the textures and the flavors.

Allow yourself to fully CHOOSE to eat and let go of any guilt around it.

When we bring guilt into eating, it’s easier to go unconscious and overdo it. No one likes to feel guilty!

Bringing awareness to eating lets you derive maximum pleasure from it, and you will be less likely to overeat when you really take your time and notice each bite.

I did this process yesterday when driving home. I really wanted to eat some organic popcorn I had just bought at the store.

Wasn’t physically hungry, just liked the idea of having some popcorn.

I went through the questions and realized that listening to music would feel good.

The songs on the radio weren’t amazing, so I decided to sing instead. I had SOOO much fun singing on the hour drive home.

I never did eat the popcorn. If I had chosen to eat it, I would have done my best to eat it with maximum awareness.

When I got home, I did choose to eat some veggies and olives and a few chips. I felt physically hungry by that time.

If you ever struggle with eating when you’re not hungry, or overeating, try this out and let me know how it goes for you!

We’ve been conditioned to override our intuition with rules, trends, and outside voices.

But no strategy, supplement, or plan will work if you’re disconnected from your own signals.

Trust is the foundation.

When you start listening (to your hunger, your energy, your emotions) everything begins to align. This is where real wellness begins: not in control, but in deep connection with yourself 💙

We often think inflammation is mostly about food.

Eat less sugar.
Take the supplement.
Add the anti-inflammatory ingredient.

But when researchers studied the world’s longest-living populations, they found something bigger:

The people aging best were not stress-free.
They just did not stay stressed all day.

That is a major difference.

Because stress is part of life everywhere, including in the Blue Zones. But Blue Zones researchers found that these communities tend to have daily rituals that help bring stress back down, including prayer, napping, ancestor remembrance, and time to gather with others.

Blue Zones describes this pattern as “downshift,” and notes that these rituals help reduce the inflammation linked to chronic stress.

That matters because chronic stress affects the entire body.

Research has linked chronic psychological stress to ongoing low-grade inflammation, and that kind of inflammation is tied to many of the diseases people fear most as they age.

The National Institute on Aging also describes chronic, low-grade inflammation, sometimes called inflammaging, as a feature of aging that contributes to age-related disease.

In other words:

It is not only the stress itself.
It is whether your body ever gets the signal that the stress is over.

That is where modern life goes wrong.

So many women spend the entire day activated.

Rushing.
Scrolling.
Working.
Caretaking.
Worrying.
Pushing through.
Then collapsing at night without ever truly coming down.

That is not resilience.

That is overload.

And over time, overload has a cost.

The Blue Zones pattern offers a different model.

Not a perfect life or a life without stress.
A life with built-in recovery.

What this looks like in the Blue Zones:
A pause.
A prayer.
A nap.
A slow meal.
A walk with someone you love.
A moment at the end of the day when your nervous system is allowed to exhale.

That is one reason this pattern matters so much for healthy aging.

The women who age the slowest do not just avoid inflammatory foods.
They interrupt inflammatory living.

And that is a lesson many modern women desperately need.
Because the goal is not to become a person with zero stress.

The goal is to stop carrying the same stress signal from morning to night, day after day, year after year.

What this can look like in real life:
- 10 quiet minutes before the day starts
- a short walk without your phone
- prayer, meditation, or deep breathing
- sitting outside in the evening
- one meal eaten slowly
- calling a friend instead of staying in your head
- resting before you are completely depleted

It does not have to be dramatic.
It just has to be daily.

Healthy aging is about the signals you give your body over and over again:

You are safe.
You can slow down.
You can recover now.

In Blue Zones, that recovery is not treated like a luxury.
It is part of how life is lived.

And that may be one of the most anti-inflammatory habits of all.

BLUE ZONES REMINDER: TAKE THE STAIRS | The world’s longest-lived people don't pump iron, run marathons, or join gyms. Centenarians in the blue zones live in environments that nudge them to move naturally every 20 minutes. Rather than separating fitness into a different part of their day, it’s built into their lifestyles subconsciously.

Try “exercise snacks”: In a study from the University of British Columbia, when, over a nine-hour period, overweight adults did a stair-climbing “exercise snack” every hour—briskly climbing 55 steps for about 20 seconds—their blood sugar levels were 17% lower than when they just spent the entire nine hours sitting.

keep it simple 🤍

You’re never too old to start building muscle.

Muscle acts as a metabolic reservoir, storing and utilizing glucose efficiently, preventing insulin resistance, and protecting against chronic disease. The study found that muscle mass—not BMI—was the strongest predictor of survival, independent of fat mass, cardiovascular risk factors, and metabolic markers.

I used to think lifting weights was just for bodybuilders—I didn’t love the gym and thought cardio was enough. But when I learned that strength training activates longevity pathways like mTOR and AMPK, protects mitochondria, and triggers the release of myokines—hormone-like compounds that reduce inflammation and enhance brain function—I realized it wasn’t just about looking fit. It was about living longer, stronger, and healthier!

You don’t need a gym or fancy equipment. Strength training—whether it’s bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, or lifting weights—builds muscle, protects your metabolic health, and safeguards your future.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about living longer it’s about living better.

Tomorrow!

Join Dr. Abigail Seaver and the Thrive Community to learn What Every Woman and her Partner Should Know About Perimenopause and Menopause

Wednesday, March 25, 7pm MT/9pm Eastern

The menopause transition can be confusing—for both the person experiencing it and the people who love them.

Weight gain and increased stress eating are common symptoms, along with many others.

In this webinar, women and partners will learn what perimenopause and menopause really involve, why symptoms occur, and how these changes can affect mood, energy, sleep, and relationships.

We’ll discuss treatment options as well as practical ways to show support, improve communication, and navigate this stage together with empathy and understanding.

Join the Thrive Community for the replay and to join the conversation about hormonal transitions,
