“Sometimes healing looks like pausing on a trail to greet a turtle.”

During a recent nature-based EMDR session, our Happy Camper counselor, Jorge, encountered this turtle, which turned into a powerful opportunity to practice attachment and relational skills. We explored how fear shows up, how we respond to it, and how we can trust ourselves and others in the process.

This moment allowed us to experience what it’s like to return to safety and homeostasis in the natural world—reconnecting with our bodies and relationships in real-time. Using EMDR, we were able to install these attachment resources, helping to strengthen the ability to stay grounded and navigate fears in a safe, supportive way.

Nature truly becomes our co-therapist, teaching us more than we expect!

Welcome Deidra and Julia to the Happy Camper Team. Deidra comes to us with over a decade of experience as a school counselor. Deidra has openings for evenings and weekends. Julia started this summer as a Happy Camper Nature Group Therapist. She is now accepting individual clients of all ages. All of our Happy Camper Counselors are Trauma, Attachment, and TBRI trained. Supervised by Elizabeth Pennington, LPC-S, RPT, EMDR Consultant.
