We’re excited to welcome Matthew Atchison, a graduate-level therapy intern, to our team!

He provides a supportive, grounded space for children, teens, and adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or in need of extra support during life transitions. Matthew offers sessions at a reduced rate, making therapy more accessible while still providing thoughtful, evidence-based care.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, now is a great time to reach out. Matthew is currently accepting new clients and would love to support you on your journey.

To book a session, email admin@pinkertonpsychotherapy.com or call (713)800-6999.

It’s common for therapy to feel uncomfortable before it feels relieving. As awareness grows, emotions that were once pushed aside may surface — not to overwhelm you, but to be understood and integrated. Healing is not linear, and it’s not about blame. It’s about creating space for insight, compassion, and choice.

If you’re in this phase, you’re not alone — and you’re not doing it wrong.

The holidays can bring joy and connection, but they can also reactivate the roles we learned to play growing up—roles that helped us survive, but no longer reflect who we are today. If you notice yourself slipping into old patterns around family, that’s your nervous system responding to what used to feel unsafe. You’re allowed to show up differently now. Let emotional safety, not obligation, guide how you navigate this season. Honor your limits, protect your peace, and choose the relationships where you feel seen and supported.

Toxic positivity often comes from good intentions — we want to help someone feel better. But when we rush to silver linings, we skip over the part that truly heals: being seen.

Validation says,“I won’t fix this for you — but I’ll sit with you in it.”

That’s where real connection begins.

Save this as a reminder for how to hold space for yourself and the people you love.
