Common sense (and science) FTW! I'm so proud to have been part of the team as an expert witness. Well done, Disability Rights Texas! Thanks for helping to protect kids at risk for severe COVID-19.

The judge said the governor's order impedes children with disabilities from the benefits of public schools’ programs, services and activities, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Pfizer vaccines are now available for kids aged 5+. Should you vaccinated your child? Talk to your pediatrician, but if they're board certified you better believe they should be recommending it. Also, ask others who have vaccinated their kids about their experience. Avoid using a single anecdote that you've seen on social media trying to scare you out of getting your kids protected against severe COVID-19.

If you're still not sure what to do you can always book a chat through the calendly link on my page.

I can finally say (after a month) that numbers are coming down in the Houston area. Percent positivity in kids and adults is less than 10% for the first time since late July.

Let's all continue to stay vigilant, quarantine and get tested if sick, practice mitigation strategies and await word that vaccines are approved for kids aged 5-12...should be in October.

Percent positivity in the Texas Children's Hospital system is higher than percent positivity on the Texas Medical Center website. Effective reproductive rate is still greater than 1 ie the virus is continuing to spread and it's spreading among kids.

Change in human behavior, also known as mitigation strategies, is the best way to slow the spread of this virus. There are a few loud doctors who keep spreading their views that go against consensus and that medications are good enough to help those who get sick. I, for one, am glad that there are meds to help the sick, but let's not forget that when it comes to viral illnesses, prevention is the key.

Very soon people will need to make the decision to vaccinate their kids who are 5 and up. Please speak to your kids' doctors about what to do. Seeing as though the FDA has granted full approval there's not a very good argument in saying that it is not known if these vaccines are safe. They are safe and effective and prevent severe COVID-19.

I tell my patients all the time that one cannot expect a change without an intervention. I think that’s a more tactful way of paraphrasing the quote, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
We are living in insane times, however, since COVID rates are growing exponentially for the 3rd time in the last 13 months. Houston’s percent positivity 4 weeks ago was 2.2% and now it’s greater than 10%. At this rate we could be at 20% positivity rate in the next 14 days with school right around the corner and mask mandates illegal in this state, according to Premier Abbott.

There’s only one way to stop the insanity, and it’s by getting a vaccine. People still blaming China and screaming about lab leak or vilifying Dr. Fauci are avoiding the real problem. Politicians blaming Biden for low vaccine rates and saying his agenda is “harming people,” are simply fragile people trying to hold on to power ie clinging to human constructs instead of protecting their human constituents.

I looked forward to the day COVID-19 would be a vaccine preventable illness, but I didn’t take into account people’s gullibility and the sad reality that Americans simply have no grasp of public health, seeing as though guns have been a public health emergency for years, but inaction is the norm from leaders.

We are all going to get COVID-19 eventually, but let’s allow kids of all ages to be vaccinated before that happens since adults are not doing their part. Anti-vaxxers will quote low death rates as a reason kids don’t need inoculation, but there are kids with clots needing amputations, kids with brain fog, kids with MISC and kids who can’t exercise anymore because of heart or lung problems. One bad outcome is too many, and there have been more than one child who has died. Also, this delta variant is more transmissible and we are about to send kids back to large indoor spaces, which is where we get each other sick.

Continue to practice mitigation strategies, and if you live with unvaccinated people consider stopping the indoor dining at restaurants. Avoid indoor maskless activities around unvaccinated people and when mixing with many households, and get a test if you do not feel well (even if vaccinated).

Expect the CDC to put out some updated guidelines soon because we are experiencing exponential spread again and that’s hard to stop.

A big thank you to Dayna Steele for having me back on the program. Please take a listen and share, as we really need to start getting together again and coming together again as humans, as we are getting close and closer to the finish line of this pandemic.
