Me and my forever babies. No matter how old they get, I still shed a bitter sweet tear every year that they get older or in precious moments that I see them sleeping, achieve acknowledgement for an accomplishment, overcome an obstacle, discover something new, or sometimes even just going about their daily routine. I just can’t help being overcome with gratefulness at times. And like so many other parents, I want what’s best for my kids in every aspect of life. And though there are many different opinions on what’s best and how best to provide it, I believe most if not all would have to agree on a bottom line.... Natural is healthier. The issue comes in that natural is often not convenient nor is it even possible sometimes. Unless you live on a farm, have a greenhouse, and the ability to grow plants that are not in season, it can be pretty challenging to live in the US and be 100% natural, especially if you have kids who aren’t too excited about joining you on your new vegetarian journey... lol. So I had to figure out a way to incorporate healthier choices that didn’t seem drastic but added up to being significant. Well, one day I was at church and saw a couple of lady’s I knew sitting down talking, I walked up to them, and my prayers were answered even though I didn’t realize then.
Christy Sylvester is one of my favorite choir directors and I have a lot of respect for her. So when she said, April, you need this.... I signed up and became a member of Young Living that day. I know it might sound strange to sign up for something you don’t know anything about, but that day ended up changing my life by not just answering a prayer of how to better take care of my children, but also a prayer I had been praying long before they were born to be a vessel that God could use to help others be healthier. You see, my kit came in with about 10 oils and some free samples and sat on my desk until Christy came and walked me through how to use the oils one by one. I have to admit that I wasn’t really sure even at that point of how much oils would become part of my life. Later, people I knew began to tell me about different concerns about their health and I remembered what Christy shared about the oils. I would look up each area of concern, find out which oil in my kit supported that area functioning well, and provide them a sample of the oil. Nothing but good feedback and the same thing went for my kids. It didn’t take me long to learn that instead of trying to build our bodies back up to the wellness line when we fall beneath it..... we should be living above the wellness line to decrease or eliminate as many onsets of ailments as possible.
It wasn’t until I saw my son struggling with allergies and then getting stomach aches as a side effect from the over the counter allergy medication that I really began to back off of OTC’s and prescriptions. I learned that allergies actually come from an unhealthy gut and that my son needed probiotics (YL Kids MightyPro) to retrain his gut to stop his immune system from overreacting to particles that weren’t harmful to him. I’m not saying that medicine doesn’t have its place in this world. But I am saying that it is no longer my goto. It’s the peppermint, lavender, Chamomile, and Thieves Blend I used to support my daughter’s immune function that in turn broker her fever and had her at a place of wellness when she caught the flu 2 days before Thanksgiving in time to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. I am truly grateful that God has all power in His hands and can and will, if He sees fit, speak instant healing by His hand alone into a situation. I am also grateful that He has supplied a way for us to receive guidance and understanding from Him on how to use the resources He provided when this earth was formed to help our body heal itself as He designed for it to do. And yes, I’m even grateful for things we can’t prevent no matter how hard we try, because those are the times that I get a special opportunity to see just how much God is with me, loves me, and cares for me and my children. And it is in those times that I grow in Him even the more.
So I invite you to take this journey with me as I learn and discuss holistic health. Not just about essential oils, but natural feasible ways we can be our best self spiritually, mentally, and physically.
