How many centimeters am I?” is one of the most common questions in labor…

But cervical dilation doesn’t actually tell the full story.

You can be a 4-5 centimeters dilated and still be in early labor—or progressing more than that number shows.

When everything is focused on dilation, it can create pressure to “move faster”… even when your body is doing exactly what it needs to do.

Understanding what REALLY tells you where you are in labor can change how confident you feel.
