Our thoughts have a powerful impact on how we feel. 💭✨

When we practice reframing our thoughts, we begin to shift from patterns of self-criticism, fear, or hopelessness into perspectives that are more balanced, compassionate, and empowering. This doesn’t mean ignoring challenges or pretending everything is perfect — it means learning to view situations in ways that support emotional regulation, resilience, and growth.

A simple shift in perspective can positively impact your mood, reduce stress, and improve how you respond to daily life challenges. Healthy thought patterns help create healthier emotional patterns.

The good news? Reframing thoughts is a skill that can be practiced and strengthened over time.

Hobbies are more than just something to pass the time — they can play an important role in mental health and identity development. 🌱✨

Engaging in hobbies helps reduce stress, improve mood, increase confidence, and create opportunities for connection and self-expression. Hobbies also allow us to explore who we are outside of responsibilities, pressures, and expectations. They help build a stronger sense of identity by reconnecting us with our interests, creativity, strengths, and passions.

Whether it’s painting, gardening, horseback riding, reading, music, hiking, or learning something new, healthy hobbies create moments of joy, purpose, and emotional balance.

Making time for activities you enjoy is not selfish — it is part of caring for your mental and emotional well-being.

What if self-care felt more like a game you could win? 🌟

Try creating a “Self-Care Bingo” for your week by checking off healthy habits that support your mental and emotional well-being. Simple things like drinking water, going for a walk, deep breathing, journaling, spending time outside, connecting with a friend, or getting enough sleep all count!

There is something rewarding about caring for yourself consistently and seeing the positive impact it can have on your mood, stress levels, and overall well-being. Small habits practiced regularly can create meaningful change over time.

Challenge yourself to see how many self-care habits you can check off this week. Your mind and body will thank you. 💚

Animals have an incredible ability to help us feel safe, connected, and understood — which is why animal and equine-assisted interventions can be such a powerful addition to counseling. 🐾🐴

I am often asked, “Why do animals help in therapy?” and the answer is both simple and profound. Animals offer authentic, real-time responses and connection. In our office, we work with both dogs and horses, and their presence can help regulate the nervous system, promote calming, and support emotional safety. These interactions naturally encourage the release of social bonding hormones, helping people feel more grounded and connected.

Some of the deepest healing happens when a person feels truly seen, heard, and safe in connection with another. Animal-assisted counseling enhances this process by adding a compassionate, nonjudgmental relationship that helps people tolerate processing traumatic and painful experiences. Animals offer honest connection, calming support, and unconditional presence — and they may just be the best listeners.

Beyond all the things animals teach us about ourselves, they help create a therapeutic environment that feels supportive, authentic, and healing.

Horse advice can be helpful and up to your interpretation. It always amazes me how spending time with horses not only gives you feedback on where you are at but brings your thoughts more to your awareness. New from the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research®:

A recent feasibility study explored the use of EMDR therapy as an adjunctive treatment for adolescents with eating disorders, examining impacts on eating disorder symptoms, trauma symptoms, and emotional regulation.

Preliminary findings suggest EMDR-ED may be a feasible and valuable addition to standard eating disorder treatment, particularly when addressing underlying trauma and attachment-related experiences.

Did you know? Humans are one of the only mammals that willingly delay sleep — even when we’re exhausted. 😴

In a world that often glorifies constant productivity, rest can start to feel optional. But sleep is not a luxury — it is essential for emotional regulation, mental clarity, focus, memory, stress management, and overall mental health.

When we consistently push through exhaustion, our nervous system can become overwhelmed, making it harder to cope with stress, manage emotions, and feel balanced throughout the day. Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is slow down, unplug, and allow our brain and body to recover. 💜

At Amanda Martin Counseling, we offer mental health services and neurofeedback training to support healthier brain function, emotional wellness, stress management, focus, and sleep support.

What can animals teach us? 🐴🐶💛

Animals have an incredible way of helping us slow down and reconnect with ourselves. Through animal-assisted therapy, they teach us:
✨ How to be fully present in the moment
✨ Acceptance to be ourselves and feel what we feel
✨ That we are worthy of love and connection

Animals give love freely and also accept love when it’s offered. In their presence, many people experience comfort, safety, emotional regulation, and authentic connection. These healing moments can help us better understand ourselves and support emotional growth.
