Look who’s been busy — Isabella K. Marra, MS2! 🎉👏

Isabella was recently selected as a 2026 recipient of the Ugo di Portanova Endowment Scholarship after being nominated by the Department of World Languages, recognizing her outstanding achievement and dedication.

She is also completing her fellowship year with the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, where she partnered with Legacy Community Health to develop bilingual adolescent mental health resources under the guidance of faculty advisor, Diego F. Alvarez, M.D., Ph.D.. Last week, Isabella presented her work at the annual Evening of Difference, celebrating a year of meaningful community impact and service.

Congratulations, Isabella, on these incredible accomplishments and your continued commitment to service, leadership and advancing health equity in our communities! 💙🎓

Shreya Desai, rising MS4 on her general surgery sub-internship, and Jackie Garcia, rising MS3, are crushing their surgery rotations at DHR Health. They got to practice on the DaVinci robot in the sim lab thanks to the residents. So proud of these ladies! 💪🩺

Spirit Week & Field Day brought the right energy! ⚡

It was a great chance for students at the Fertitta College of Medicine to step back, unwind, and have some fun together—from 2016 throwbacks to Adam Sandler fits to full-on western wear, the creativity all week was unmatched.

We wrapped it up last Friday with Field Day— games, food, and a little friendly chaos to close things out right. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made it one to remember 📸

We believe research drives better patient care. ❤️‍🩹

Congratulations to Shritika Pokharel for presenting at the Texas Medical Association’s premier annual conference in Corpus Christi!

Her research on “Effectiveness of Alfuzosin in combination with Finasteride for BPH-related Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms,” evaluates the benefits of dual therapy using an alpha-blocker (Alfuzosin) together with a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor (Finasteride) to better manage both the immediate symptom burden and the underlying progression of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

Key takeaway: This combination may provide improved urinary flow and more sustained symptom control compared to monotherapy— supporting a more comprehensive and effective treatment approach for patients.

BIG NEWS: more clerkships, more impact, and more ways to serve. 🤗

We’re excited to share that the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine is expanding clinical clerkship through a new partnership with Memorial Hermann, creating more opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience across diverse health care settings.

These new partnerships strengthen clinical training and provide future physicians with broader exposure to the communities they will one day serve—helping prepare them to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across Texas and beyond. ✨🌎

This expansion reflects our continued commitment to building meaningful pathways between medical education and real-world practice, ensuring our students are equipped to meet the evolving needs of the health care landscape.
