Two of the biggest fears that kids have when disclosing abuse are things that do, in fact, happen.
1 - People won't believe them or do anything about it.
2 - That someone they love will get in trouble and it will disrupt their family.

While the second fear is often something we have little control over, we can do something about the first one.

Let's believe and support kids.

The Mama Bear Effect

It’s coercive control and it’s abusive.

When we think about the factors that lead to vulnerability to sexual abuse or exploitation in childhood, there are usually oblivious caregivers in the background.

Whether we are twelve and have a deficit of care and attention or we are thirty, many of us look to anyone who will have us.

This is a safety issue and an old one.

As we grow, develop a better radar system for the first time and are more protective of ourselves, it's important to think of how we got here.

How did the family system of origin set the child up to be looking for a home elsewhere?

Before I started recovery, I was free floating through life and just happy to have anyone interested - without having a sense of if the person was safe or not. Just like my childhood.

Great reminder. The ability to do care tasks has nothing to do with being a good person.

Posted • Do you give yourself permission to put your needs first? To rest? To be who you are?⁣

Here are a few things to normalize:⁣

-Putting your needs first.⁣

-Outgrowing people.⁣

-Resting⁣

-Grieving and feeling your emotions.⁣

-Unapologetically being who you want to be.⁣

-Taking up space.⁣
