So refreshing to see an article sharing some truths on the keto diet fad. What many failed to share is that it's DANGEROUS to your health. Not only is it taxing for your kidneys and liver to process alllllll the extra fat, puts you at an increased risk for heart disease, AND breaks down your muscles because it's not getting the proper fuel, but if you don't stick to it to a T (which is difficult and unsustainable), the weight comes right back, so you're fighting an uphill battle in addition to putting your health at risk.

Our bodies are designed to use carbs (sugar/glucose) as fuel and it's important to balance the macro nutrients- carbs, protein & fat. Truthfully, there are no shortcuts for losing weight and getting fit. It takes consistency and focus, and it's something you have to work on every day, but it doesn't have to be difficult or confusing. It can even be lots of fun!

When you're properly fueling your body, it will naturally regulate the weight to an ideal, healthy weight. It may be uncomfortable in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it it becomes easy, exciting and FUN, especially as your healthiest body emerges and you have increased energy and zest for life!

Check out this bounty of organic produce! I love filling my cart at the grocery store with fresh organic fruits and veggies knowing it's going to nourish me and raise my frequency as organic produce is the highest frequency food you can feed yourself.

I'm preparing to do the free 3-day detox, which I'm starting tomorrow. If you'd like to join me, you can find the link to the free detox in my bio as well as a link to my free Facebook group where you can follow along on my journey.

I aim to do quarterly cleanses and/or juice fasts and decided it was time. I'll be following up with the parasite cleanse next week. I'm excited because I always feel soooooo good when I cleanse and detox, especially when I haven't made my nutrition a priority lately with my busy schedule. So this is my favorite way to reset and get back on track.

Just a friendly reminder as this goes without saying (and I’m reminding myself as well 😉). Whether you want to lose weight, have more energy, run faster, lift heavier, eat healthier, make more money or create something, your results reflect your daily action steps, which reflect how consistent you are in taking action. Say you want to lose weight but only exercise sporadically or eat junk food five out of seven days of the week, you will place your goal farther out of reach. It’s important to check in with yourself and be honest. Ask yourself, are my daily action steps getting me closer to my goals? If yes, great! Keep it up. If not, why? What is your WHY for meeting your goals? Why do you sabotage? If you struggle with self accountability, maybe you need an accountability partner. This is where I can help. Not only can I help you design a nutrition plan for optimum wellness that will target your health and fitness goals, but I will help keep you accountable and focused. Self accountability takes practice and there is no shame in getting help until you are able to CONSISTENTLY take aligned action steps.

Magnesium & Sunshine- two things that can easily be overlooked when feeling fatigued or stressed. When I’m feeling fatigued, my first thought is wanting to sleep for hours, but that’s not always possible, so my next thought is what am I lacking in my physical well-being? I go through my daily checklist of self-care musts: Supplements? Sunshine? Sleep patterns? Hydration? Movement? Stress level? Nutrition? If any of these are lacking, I make adjustments. It's a daily commitment and I know I'm worth it. So are you!

Magnesium is the master mineral required for over 300 metabolic functions including protein synthesis, energy production, muscle & nerve function, bone development, muscle contraction and heart rhythm to name a few- literally every cell in the body needs it and deficiency is common. Symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, loss of appetite & headaches.

As an athlete, if you have difficulty staying energized, have muscle fatigue, pain or soreness either during or after your workouts, have heart palpitations, poor recovery or difficulty losing weight, you could benefit from magnesium supplementation. Studies have shown it to enhance athletic performance.

Food sources include nuts, seeds, beans, avocado, banana, leafy greens, soy milk and dark chocolate. A green smoothie with banana, spinach, almond butter and soy milk would be a great way to fuel your workout, or taken as a recovery drink with added plant protein.

No one likes having a runny nose or congestion due to allergies or cold, especially if you're a runner because it's harder to breathe and take in oxygen efficiently. A remedy I recommend is mullein tincture.

Mullein is an herb everyone, especially runners, should have in their medicine cabinets, during allergy/cold season. It is very supportive of respiratory health and aids in reducing inflammation of the lungs and clearing the respiratory tract, and eases coughs and bronchial congestion. I have found it very helpful in treating seasonal allergy symptoms including runny nose, cough and congestion. I take a couple of dropperfuls and my symptoms subside quickly.

In addition to supporting respiratory health, mullein has been used in treating urinary tract infections (UTIs), earaches, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic properties, among other benefits.

You can find it in tincture, capsule or tea form. Be sure to look for organic to reduce exposure to toxic pesticides. If taking the tincture, be aware it has a licorice taste. You can add a few dropperfuls to warm water, along with a little elderberry syrup (or use dried herbs) and raw honey, such as manuka, for a powerful, yet comforting tea to ease your cold symptoms and keep you running strong through the winter.
