I think you’re missing out if you don’t take this often.

This right here is the perfect example of “small but mighty.” It looks tiny, but the work it does is nothing short of awesome.

This is Ginger.

Curious how ginger helps your body and overall health? Here’s just a few benefits:
- Aids digestion
- Reduces nausea
- Boosts immunity
- Fights cold and flu
- Helps manage blood sugar levels
- Supports heart health
- Eases menstrual pain
- Improves brain function
- Anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation and relieves joint pain like arthritis)

… and the list goes on!

But remember, this isn’t a green light for everyone to take ginger non-stop. If you have a ginger allergy, avoid it. And always listen to your body before adding anything new to your routine, just as we always advise.

We won’t take responsibility for any misuse of these tips! 💙👍🏽

Let’s talk about the TNM Cancer Staging System.

Doctors don’t just say “You have cancer.”
They go further to describe how far it has gone using something called TNM:

🧬 T = Tumor
Measures the size of the tumor.
• T0 – No tumor found
• T1–T4 – Tumor found; the higher the number, the bigger or more invasive
• TX – Tumor exists, but cannot be measured (not enough info yet).

🧬 N = Nodes
This checks if cancer has spread to lymph nodes.
• N0 – No cancer in nodes
• N1–N3 – Cancer in nodes; N3 means widespread
• NX – Lymph nodes cannot be assessed.

🧬 M = Metastasis
This looks at whether the cancer has spread to far parts of the body.
• M0 – No distant spread
• M1 – Cancer has spread
• MX– Can’t assess if it has spread yet

So for example, if the result shows: “T2 N1 M0,” it means:
Medium-sized tumor, cancer in a few lymph nodes, but hasn’t spread far.

Now, here’s a question for you:
What do you think “T1 N3 M1” means?

Let’s talk about it.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙨?
Sleep paralysis is a temporary inability to move or speak that occurs when you’re falling asleep or waking up. You’re fully conscious, but your body won’t move, which can be terrifying!

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚?
• You’re aware of your surroundings but completely unable to move or speak.
• You might feel a heavy weight on your chest or like you can’t breathe.
• Many people report scary hallucinations like seeing shadowy figures, hearing voices, or sensing a presence in the room.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣?
When you sleep, your brain goes through stages. One of which is REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement), where most dreaming happens.
To protect you, your brain temporarily “paralyzes” your muscles so you don’t act out your dreams.

Sleep paralysis happens when your brain wake up before your body “unfreezes.”
Your brain is awake, your eyes might be open, but your body is still in REM-mode.

You’re stuck between dreaming and waking, and your brain is a little confused. That’s why hallucinations feel so real.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙤 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙮?
Because your brain is still half-dreaming, it mixes reality with dream-like images. That’s why you might see shadows, hear whispers, or feel something pressing on your chest.

It’s not real. Just your brain glitching for a moment.

𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤?
Anyone can experience sleep paralysis, but it’s more common if you:
• Have irregular sleep patterns
• Are stressed or anxious
• Have a sleep disorder
• Sleep on your back
• Are sleep-deprived

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨:
• Stick to a regular sleep schedule (aim for 7–9 hours)
• Manage stress (meditation, exercise, journaling)
• Avoid caffeine or ni****ne before bed
• Sleep on your side instead of your back

Sleep paralysis is not a spiritual attack or sign of danger. It’s scary, but not harmful.

Your brain just needs a few seconds to catch up.🧠💤

Today is Saturday,

Have you ever heard the saying: “There is no health without mental health”?

What does that really mean?

It means you cannot be considered “fully healthy” if your mind is suffering— even when your body seems fine.

Mental health affects how we think, feel, act, and relate. It influences everything: your work, your relationships, your energy, even how your body feels.

The truth is, your physical and mental health are deeply connected.

When your body is unwell, your mind can feel low.
When your mental health struggles, it often shows up in your body, through fatigue, insomnia, constant headaches, or even high blood pressure.

So, as you care for your physical health, don’t forget your mental health.

Talk. Rest. Breathe. Seek support. Take breaks.

Your body and your mind are a team—nurture both. 💙

Fruits are healthy, but... 🍌🍊🍓

At Health Talk With Dr. Mutiat, we always encourage you to eat more fruits as they are natural sources of vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants.

But here’s the other side of the story:

While fruits are generally safe, certain combinations can cause digestive discomfort in some people.

Here are a few fruit combos to avoid (or take with caution):

1. Citrus + Sweet Fruits (e.g. Orange + Banana/Papaya):
They digest at different speeds and acidity levels, which may cause bloating or gas.

2. Melons + Any Other Fruit:
Melons digest fast. When combined with slower fruits, it can ferment in your stomach and cause discomfort.

3. Banana + Guava:
This mix may trigger gas, headaches, or acidity in some people.

4. Orange + Carrot (especially as juice):
This combo can lead to acid reflux and heartburn in sensitive individuals.

5. Pineapple + Milk/Yogurt:
This combo may curdle in the stomach and cause indigestion.

PS: Not everyone reacts the same way. Some bodies tolerate these combos just fine. But if you notice discomfort after eating certain mixes, it might be time to rethink your fruit habits.

✅ Eat fruits, but do so with awareness.
Your gut will thank you. 💙

THE WORRISOME NUMBERS.

Let’s play with numbers this morning.

Reliable data on the total number of mental health therapists (including psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors and therapist, and social workers specialising in mental health in Nigeria) are as follows:

• Psychiatrists— Fewer than 200 practicing psychiatrists nationwide as of late 2024.

• Clinical Psychologists— Approximately 319 licenced clinical psychologists registered with the NACP (Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists).

• Counselors, Therapists, and Social Workers— Albeit, no comprehensive national figures for 2024/2025, but these roles are even scarcer than psychiatrists and psychologists.

Number of People Suffering from Mental Health Issues in Nigeria (as of 2024/2025)— based on surveys, WHO estimates, and meta-analyses:

• Nigeria’s population is estimated at 230—238 million people in 2024/2025.

• Overall Mental Health Issues— Approximately 20-30% of Nigerians (around 47—71 million people) experience some form of mental health disorder in their lifetime, according to widely cited WHO and local estimates.

• Depression— Prevalence is estimated at 2.85~3%—7% (about 6.5—16 million people) with Nigeria having one of the highest caseloads globally.

• Schizophrenia— Prevalence is around 0.18—0.32% (approximately 414,000—760,000 people).

In Nigeria, less than 4% of Nigeria’s health budget is allocated to Mental Health.

This shortage is also exacerbated by the “Japa Syndrome,” where many healthcare professionals emigrate for better opportunities, leaving the remaining practitioners overworked and under-resourced.

What does this tell you? 🤔

09/15/2025

The World Health Organization (WHO), as of 2024, recommends:

• 1 psychiatrist per 10,000 people with mental health conditions in high-income countries.
• For low- and middle-income countries (like Nigeria), at least 1 psychiatrist per 100,000 people.

But Nigeria’s reality in 2024/2025?

• We have fewer than 200 psychiatrists serving a population of 230–238 million people.
• That’s about 1 psychiatrist for every 1.15 million Nigerians.

The full breakdown drops in the next post.

But before that…
If you were a psychiatrist, would you be able to care for over 1 million patients, alone, without losing your own mind? 🤔

Today is Saturday,

As you worry about diseases that medicine can cure, don’t forget the ones only YOU can heal:

• Lack of discipline
• Toxic relationships
• Negative mindset
• Procrastination
• Poor habits
• Ignorance
• Laziness

…and the list goes on.
Heal what medicine can’t reach.
Your health is more than just your body— it’s your lifestyle. 💙

09/10/2025

This post is specifically for the depressed, the suicidal, the tired, the lost, the weary, and those who feel invisible...

We see you. 💙
We may not know exactly what you are going through, but we know your life matters.
The world is heavy, but please don’t carry it alone.

• It is okay to ask for help.
• It is okay to cry.
• It is okay to take a break.
• It is okay not to be okay— just don’t stay there.

Your story is not over. One bad chapter doesn’t define your entire book. The lurch shouldn’t determine your entire existence.
Hold on. Healing takes time, but it is possible.

You are needed. You are valued. You are loved. I love you. 💙

This Is What You MUST Know About Your Kidneys 🩺.

• Your kidneys are your silent helpers.
Though small, they play a massive role in your survival. Every day, they quietly keep your body clean, balanced, and alive.

• What do they do?
They filter out waste and toxins from your blood, balance your body’s water, salt, and minerals, regulate blood pressure, and help produce red blood cells. In short, they are the real MVPs.

• What if one kidney fails?
You can still survive without dialysis, but the remaining kidney will be overworked. Imagine one person doing the job of two. Over time, this can lead to total kidney failure.

• What of when both kidneys fail?
The body cannot function. You will need dialysis to survive until a kidney transplant is possible. Without either, survival becomes extremely difficult.

• What is dialysis?
Dialysis is a medical process that does the job of your kidneys. It filters waste and toxins from your blood.

• But, just like your kidneys works daily, one will need dialysis often, sometimes daily, pending the time the person can get a kidney transplant.

• Let us be real; dialysis is expensive. Kidney transplant is super expensive. So, why not stick to living a healthy lifestyle?

Be safe. 💙

09/10/2025

Imagine a health issue that creeps into your body without warning.

No pain. No loud symptoms. Just silence… until it’s too late.

It starts quietly, then one day, your body begins to scream:
Swollen feet. Constant tiredness. Foamy urine. High blood pressure.

By the time you notice, the damage is already done.
Now, it begins to drain you, your body, your energy, and your finances.
Treatment is expensive. Recovery is difficult. And many don’t survive.

That’s exactly what kidney disease does.

But here’s the truth, you can prevent it.
Start protecting your kidneys:

✅ Stop abusing painkillers and antibiotics
✅ Drink enough clean water daily
✅ Reduce salt and processed foods
✅ Manage your blood sugar and blood pressure
✅ Say no to harmful skin-lightening products
✅ Avoid excessive alcohol and smoking
✅ Be careful with herbal mixtures

You have two kidneys. Don’t wait till you lose one before you value them.

Stay informed. Stay protected. 💙
