At Holistic Heritage, we believe in preparing you for everything that comes with birth. Yes, even the parts no one talks about.
Like… p**ping during labor. 💩

We get asked about it all the time, and the answer is simple:
Yes, it happens.
No, it’s not a big deal.
Yes, your midwife has a strainer in her bag. (We’re not kidding.)

My latest article on SHEis.com breaks it all down. Because when it comes to birth, messy doesn’t mean wrong, it means you’re doing it right.

🚽 New SHEis.com article:
“So… am I going to p**p during labor?”

Short answer: Probably.
Long answer: Also probably.
Let’s talk about it—no shame, no filter, just facts and a few puns.

Welcome earthside, little one. Your mom is sooooo strong. You made her work long and hard as you had your arm wrapped around you and on your face. Your dad was such a great support and encouraged her and never doubted her ability to birth. What a beautiful start to life! Thank you for having us!

We were all too tired the day of. First labors can be looooooooong! This was my longest to date. Let's not break any more records please. Early labor can last for days. Sometimes, the first labor is long because the hormone cascade is not cooperating in some way. Progesterone drops dramatically, initiating oxytocin to increase, prostaglandin to increase, dopamine increases, thyroid function increases. All of these hormones initiate changes for labor to progress. When they are going slow or not increasing as needed, labor is slow, it stalls, it stays the same. It takes a lot of patience and endurance to get through this. It's worth the wait to avoid the surgical birth if possible, especially if the family wants more children. It's easy to say, I'm done, lets just cut them out, but then risk is higher for every pregnancy later. If mom and baby are doing well, be patient, use to tools available, and rest when you can. YOU DID IT! You both were so beautiful together, and we got to witness so much love and support. I wish every woman had what you had. Big congratulations!

Baby number 8. This little one can forget dating with 7 big brothers!. This journey felt more like a collaboration. She is brilliant, knows herself, what she wants, and trusts her instincts. Kenzie couldn't make the picture, so we put her in anyways as she was there to help with all things.

Her first homebirth. Surprised there was never a need to check her cervical dilation and she loved no one told her when it was ok to push/or breathe her baby out. Birth her way on her terms. Absolutely beautiful!

She made all her own decisions without coercion. She trusted herself and how she was feeling. This is my dream for all women. The midwife, doula, doctors, or family are not feeling what she's feeling. I want women to trust their instincts and intuition. I'm so proud of you momma! Thanks for having us!
