Thank you for being the best dad to Nico. You are so patient, so loving, so attentive. You work so hard for us, then come home and don’t miss a single feeding no matter what time it is. Nico is so lucky to have such a kind hearted man to be his guide.
Watching you love our son is balm to my soul. I could not have asked for a better father, a better partner, or a better friend.

I’ve been trying to find the right words all week in the midst of feeling the full spectrum of emotions.

When I found out I was having a boy, I was of course excited because I was to birth new life. But that excitement soon turned into worry as I realized the responsibility that comes with being the mother of a black child.

The sadness that comes with knowing no matter how innocent, pure, and sweet my child is - America still sees him as a threat. I envied my white peers with the privilege of raising sons without this fear, this constant worry.

I pray everyday that Nico lives in a better world. I pray people will love and accept him because of who is, and not what he looks like. I hope for a future that does not include me explaining to him why he can’t do certain things that other children can; or why people won’t like him simply because he’s black; or that there’s a whole damn system that wants to see him fail.

My prayers alone won’t make this happen though. My ancestors prayed the same prayers and yet here we are today.

What I need is YOU. I need YOU to actively work towards dismantling white supremacy. YOU to educate your sons and daughters. YOU to talk to your spouse, parents, and friends. The emotional labor can’t be put on the backs of black mothers, we are tired and we are asking YOU to do the work. Beyond this post, this week, this year - let’s work toward creating a better future for our children.

Motherhood.

Today makes two months since I transitioned from Maiden to Mother.

I woke up in gratitude this morning for my son, who made me a mother. For my mother, Grandmother, and Aunts. Grateful for every woman who ever mothered me.

Today I celebrate you, I celebrate us.

Thank you, Mama.

And to those who are struggling today for whatever reason, my heart is with you. ❤️

It’s been eight whole days since my little bean (I call him Coco Bean) was born. Everything in my life has changed during a time of so much uncertainty. I never in a million years would have guessed I would birth a baby during a global pandemic.

I am being stretched in so many different ways, as a new mother, a partner, and a business owner. And on a deeper level - emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically.

Postpartum has been really hard, but each day I feel more confident in myself and my new role as a mother. This is a job I was made to do. With tired eyes, leaky b***s, and a sore body - I feel certain that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I’ve created many things in my life that I’m proud of, but he is by far my greatest creation.

On March 10th in the early and quiet morning, my Rising Sun came Earth side at home surrounded by a circle of love.

He is absolutely perfect with the sweetest spirit, a beautiful combination of his father and myself.

We are so excited and feel so blessed to welcome Nico Adonis Braggs to our family.

✨Mother Blessing✨

Yesterday I spent the afternoon surrounded by abundance, love, and support. As I get close the final weeks of pregnancy where I am uncomfortable and exhausted, it was such a pleasure for my journey to motherhood to be honored and celebrated.

Knowing I have women like , , , , and my incredible midwife to support me makes me feel so empowered and ready for this next big phase of my life.

I’d like to give a special thanks to for hosting such a gorgeous mother blessing, my sister for the best baby shower ever, my gals Erica, Lauren, Sasha, and my midwife for showing up for ya girl. And , , and for making such a beautiful day possible. @ Houston, Texas
