Physical Inactivity and Pain Severity in Older Adults
Núñez-Cortés et al. (2025) analyzed 27,528 older adults to determine how lifestyle factors like sleep, smoking, diet, and activity levels relate to pain severity.
The strongest predictor? Physical inactivity. It had a greater association with pain than poor sleep, smoking, or diet. With over half of participants reporting little to no activity, the findings reinforce that movement remains one of the most powerful tools for managing pain and maintaining function.
