Nick Finnegan Counseling Center

Nick Finnegan Counseling Center A unique, non-profit providing personalized service and excellence in counseling at affordable rates

Established in 2008, the organization was renamed Nick Finnegan Counseling Center in 2011 as a way for Bill and Susan Finnegan to honor their late son, Nick, who passed away several years earlier in an automobile accident. Support from family, friends and counselors helped the Finnegans grieve their loss. Because of this support, they found faith to move forward as a family, and in turn, wanted to give similar support to others. Along with the Finnegan family, NFCC raises awareness about and provides cost-effective mental health resources to Houstonians.

This sweet friend joined us for Camp Nick last summer where we made Calm Down bottles. This is a common activity we do at the counseling center to help clients calm their big emotions. Here is how to do it:
Container: Use a clean, clear plastic bottle (like a water bottle) with a tight-fitting lid.
Seal: Secure the lid with strong glue (hot glue works) to prevent spills and ingestion.
Contents: Fill about 1/4 to 1/2 with water, then add oil, glitter, beads, or small foam shapes.
Shake & Test: Shake to see how long it takes for things to settle; adjust glue/water for desired speed.
Enjoy this sensory tool!

The Serenity Prayer is used across all religions due to its consideration of connection to a higher power. Alcohol Anonymous uses the prayer in its teachings because it distills recovery into a simple, repeatable truth: let go of what you can’t control, take responsibility for what you can, and seek clarity along the way.
We hope to help you find clarity in your walk, whatever your challenges may be!

The Outreach Team thanks you for letting us come into your communities to serve, support and celebrate! We witnessed courage in quiet forms: showing up to a panel when they were grieving a child after a major tragedy, speaking up about the struggles in motherhood, kids sharing pieces of themselves through their artwork, teachers learning to write lesson plans with neurodivergent kids in mind, women taking time for themselves to play a game and so much more. Thank you and see you next year!!!

We hope your season is full of light and love. đź’š
