Over the last several weekends, we’ve had the honor of participating in the March of Dimes walks alongside so many incredible families, patients, providers, and supporters throughout our community.

These moments are such a powerful reminder of the work our Department of OB/GYN is privileged to be a part of every single day.

From reproductive health and pregnancy through delivery and beyond, it is truly an honor to care for and support patients throughout some of life’s most meaningful and vulnerable moments.

We are incredibly grateful to play a role in these journeys, and even more grateful for the trust our patients place in us. Walking beside you is a privilege we never take for granted.💜

Protecting moms. Protecting babies🧡. Dr. Irene Stafford is mentoring nurse practitioner students on measles and improving the screening process.

“This is one of the most important women’s health projects I have worked on in my career,” Stafford said. “Measles is not gone. It’s coming back. We decided to counterpunch by finding out whether patients are vaccinated or not. If we know their serology status ahead of time, we can be reassured that they are safe from measles, or we can be prepared to give them IgG faster.”

This work is helping ensure pregnant patients know their measles immunity status and get the care they need, before and after delivery. Fantastic work, Dr. Stafford🌟

Diagnosed with spina bifida before birth, Lily’s story began with uncertainty. Today, she is running.

At the UTHealth Houston Fetal Center, Lily underwent a novel fetoscopic repair using an umbilical cord patch, an advanced prenatal approach designed to improve mobility outcomes.
Fewer than half of children who undergo standard fetal surgery for spina bifida are able to walk independently. At UTHealth Houston, teams are working to change that.
