May 27, 2020 – the day my life changed forever.
During my 20-week anatomy scan, it was discovered that my cervix had begun to dilate. I was immediately sent to the Labor & Delivery ER at Memorial Hermann to receive an emergency cerclage.
Just two weeks later, at 22 weeks and 5 days, I began to go into preterm labor and was hospitalized. The doctors told me that the goal was to reach 24 weeks—the gestational milestone for viability.
But on May 27, 2020, I delivered my son at just 23 weeks and 2 days. On that day, I became a part of a group I never imagined I’d belong to—NICU families.
My son spent 110 days in the NICU at Children’s Memorial Hermann, receiving around-the-clock care from doctors and nurses who became our lifeline. Every day was filled with prayers, monitors beeping, tiny victories, and some of the hardest moments of my life.
Today, I share our story during NICU Awareness Month to honor not only my miracle boy, but also the incredible medical teams, and every parent who has walked this journey of uncertainty, fear, faith, and resilience.
To the NICU parents—past, present, and future—you are stronger than you know. 💜
