💥Did you know in HypnoBirthing classes we use our own set of terminologies? Language matters! Words matter. Language also evokes emotion. For every thought there are physical and chemical changes within our body. We prefer gentle, non-medical based terms since folks find them empowering. When I first heard the word "surge" during my pregnancy, I absolutely fell in love with it! I love the way it is not only a gentle word, but also a scientific way to describe contractions (the way they operate are in wave-like motions). 💥Hello, Monday! Here are wise words from the HypnoBirthing Institute's founder: the late and great Marie Mongan. Maternal instincts in the American maternity institutions are often pushed aside or completely ignored. Western countries such as the UK and Denmark have better birth outcomes and integrated healthcare systems (think doctors and midwives in collaboration) compared to the United States. Our country is behind when it comes to making instinctive birth a safer option for all birthing parents.

💥Hello, new week! Here are some wise words from ACOG about informed consent and informed refusal. Parents: did you know you have the right to accept or decline a treatment or procedure? You also have the right to ask additional questions regarding your care. The best way to make informed decisions is to be aware of *all* the benefits and risks of what is suggested (tests, treatments, etc.) and to know of all the benefits and risks of the alternatives as well (many times there are options available).
