Thank you Dr Rossi and staff for taking such good care of Jaxon. Today we had our 2nd round of allergy testing. Our 1st round he tested 30+ reactions. After 2 years of immune therapy today we only had 15 reactions. Yes I’m a true believer, immune therapy works!! We love y’all. πŸ’• πŸ•

We love Dr. Rossi!! He had seen our previous Alaskan Malamute, Miki, for a skin condition and he fixed her!! Today we took in our new boy, Chief, another malamute, with a concern he may have a zinc deficiency because we know Dr. Rossi is familiar with this disorder when most primary care vets aren’t. Fortunately Chief doesn’t have it. Yay!! Chief did well with Dr. Rossi and his vet staff too. Dr. Rossi takes time to speak with you and I appreciate that. I ended up buying 2 bags of the treats they were giving him. Chief loved them that much haha.
I don’t know who enjoyed our visit today the most, Oscar or Kimberly! There was a lot of smoochin’ going on!
Doja hopes you get to enjoy a little bit of 🌞 today! #doggieluvssunbathing πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž
He has his mean growl going while wagging his tail! Good morning from Doja and I!
He loves no itchiness and his bed πŸ’ž
We are so thankful for Dr. Rossi, Kimberly and the staff. Doja is resting good today curled up in our comforter from our bed and moms favorite blanket... πŸ’žπŸ’”πŸ’ž
Thank you to Dr. Rossi and staff for setting us on a path to figure out Leo’s skin issues. We are grateful for the knowledge and compassion you share.

Ducky needs our help DESPERATELY!!

We were contacted today about a teeny tiny baby boy in critical need of help. He is currently fighting for his life in the critical care unit at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists. He is a 10 week old maltipoo and only 1.32 lbs. He has a really bad coccidia infection, possible parvo (running the 2nd test now), and a possible liver shunt. His white blood cell count is too low and he can't regulate his blood sugar or his body temperature. We've already paid $4,334.31 to give him a fighting chance for the next 48 hours to see if he starts to improve even the tiniest bit. He's on a feeding tube, getting a plasma transplant and a f***l transplant (yes that's a real thing). He's also on fluids with a bunch of really good vitamins to help him fight.

Please help us to help this baby boy. He needs a lot of prayers, good thoughts and donations to help cover his care. This baby will need a name too. The first thing that popped into our heads was Ducky - do you think that fits him?

To donate to this baby, please go to www.kimsfureverhomes.com and click on the make a donation button. Our PayPal is https://www.paypal.me/kimsfureverhomes and our Venmo is @kimsfureverhomes. All donations are tax deductible! Thank you in advance for your support! πŸΎπŸ’žπŸΎπŸ’ž

Do you have a dog that itches?? Great news!!!! Coastal Veterinary Dermatology & Ear Clinic is currently enrolling canine patients in a clinical trial to assess a new biologic treatment option for dogs with allergies. We are recruiting dogs of all ages with signs of allergies and/or a condition called atopic dermatitis. This can be caused by either food allergies or environmental allergies. A similar product, Cytopoint, has already been on the market for a number of years. To be enrolled, your pup should not have had a Cytopoint injection at any point in the past. This is an important point, as medical records will be reviewed by the USDA to ensure that your pup would qualify. The study would be over a two month time period. The first month requires a visit to the clinic once each week, typically on a Monday, and the second month requires a visit to the clinic every other week. There should be a total of 7 visits to the clinic. Each visit may take roughly 20-30 minutes. All pups should be on good flea prevention (oral and/or topical). If your pup qualifies, all costs associated with the clinical trial will be covered. In addition, there will be an incentive of $200 in gift cards at the first visit as long as your pup qualifies. If your pup finishes the study, there will be an additional $300 in gift cards awarded for a total of $500 in gift cards. We are the only center in the great state of Texas that has been granted this opportunity to work with this product. Thus far, we have not encountered any side effects with this treatment. It is a randomized, blinded study, so we are not aware of which patients will get the placebo (sterile saline) or the actual product. If you are interested, please contact the clinic at (832) 781-8545.

Meet Kimberly, Coastal Veterinary Dermatology & Ear Clinic's SUPER SANDMAN.

Kimberly is one of the best techs the clinic has ever seen with anesthesia. She even tells the patients little bedtime stories as they are falling asleep! She is very kind and gentle with the patients and always makes sure to caress them as they wake up from anesthesia. She is a true rock star!

Warning: Graphic Images

Today, we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Orion the gentle giant. This dog absolutely stole our hearts.

Just 4 days ago, Orion was dumped in the streets. His owner was spotted driving away. Orion was in such deplorable condition that he was even turned away at the shelter.

This was an owned dog that belonged to no one. At only 5 years old, Orion undoubtedly lived a terrible life. He was one of the worst cases of advanced heartworm disease that we have ever seen throughout our many years in animal rescue. His story will haunt us forever.

Orion was a beautiful and majestic dog with shortly cropped ears and low hanging jowls. In his better days, he was probably close to 100lbs. Now, in his current emaciated state, he was skin and bones at 70lbs with a huge amount of fluid, a condition known as ascites in abdomen and chest, signifying heart failure. He appeared almost pregnant and moved lethargically, with intensely labored breaths. His eyes were deeply infected with green discharge and his tongue was a pinkish blue hue from his lack of oxygen and poor circulation. He was coated in mud, urine and f***s with overgrown nails curling into his rough paw pads. His body was covered in small scrapes and scratches. His limbs were painfully swollen. The fluid had already started to seep into his tissue and out of his skin, due to the lack of blood flow, a condition known as edema.

This dog was an absolute mess. Yet through all of the discomfort and pain, Orion lifted his giant head upwards for a kind human touch. His eyes were soulful and yearned for affection. Even in this hellish state, despite what he had been put through for years, Orion just wanted to be loved.

I collected his giant drooping face in my hands and kissed his muzzle. When the sedative was injected, he let out a long sigh of relief. There was no more pain now. Then the second injection that stopped his heart. After that, he was still. Finally free and at peace from all of the pain this world had inflicted upon him.

A necropsy was later performed. The images you will see here are graphic. We hope that they effect you as they have us, and serve as a stark reminder to the importance of heartworm prevention and annual testing. Orion’s life could have been so different. Heartworms take years to grow to this stage and with Orion being only 5 years old, means that he was likely infected as a puppy and never given prevention. Orion’s tragic death was 100% preventable.

Run free, Orion. In the end, you were loved. πŸ’”

Update 04/29/2020. No microchip. No sign of his family. He went to the doctor's today just to check him over. He had been running so long his nails are completely filled down. Over all in good health! We had some bloodwork sent of to double check. He's dirty and covered in fleas. The doctor gave him a Capstar and vaccines! He's resting now! Poor boy it's so scared of storms!
P.S. We've named him Snuffy!😁

This sweet boy was running from the thunder. He got lost. Dr. Rossi is letting him hide under his desk while he waits for us to find his owners. Poor boy is so scared!
Please share so he can find his family! @ Coastal Veterinary Dermatology & Ear Clinic
