We can’t expect our clients to use their AAC device if they’ve never been shown how. Modeling is key! When we, as communication partners, consistently demonstrate appropriate and functional use, our clients begin to pick it up too. 💬✨

We don’t take away AAC devices just because a client is stimming on them. 💬✨

For many, this is the equivalent of babbling for a speaking child, a way of exploring their device, or even providing needed sensory input. At the end of the day, it’s still their voice—and part of learning how to communicate. 🗣️

Sometimes the negative behaviors aren’t solely just “behaviors” but they are the clients way to express themselves when they don’t have access to effective communication 🗣️

It is important to ensure our AAC users have access to their device at all times.
