I have not always felt beautiful or had the confidence that I have today. I was raised by a single father, who knew nothing about hair, makeup, skincare, or fashion. Like many girls growing up, I struggled with insecurities. My biggest insecurity was my face. I did not understand why my eyes were more “slanted” than others or why my eyebrows resembled caterpillars. I did not understand why these brown dots called “freckles” would pop up after being in the sun. I did not feel as though I looked feminine enough in comparison to all of the girls around me. It wasn’t until high school that I found myself surrounded by supportive women who empowered me to discover the importance of inner beauty. Inner beauty is feeling confident, secure, and beautiful BEFORE falsies are glued on, eyebrows are filled in, and lipstick is applied. The point of make up is to compliment the natural beauty that every woman already encompass.
