3 steps to start your emotional regulation journey:

1. Pause the impulse: when you’re emotionally activated you have a default (autopilot) way of reacting. It’s subconscious and wired into your nervous system since childhood. Ex: shutting down/giving silent treatment, spiraling or panicking, dissociation etc. Just notice it and say out loud to yourself “Pause. I’m here in my body. I stay here and take no action.” Breathe slowly from your belly.

2. Name your brain: I dive deep into this in my first book . Your thoughts aren’t truth and they’re not reality— they’re reflections of your polyvagal state and your conditioning. If you name your brain Jessica, say to yourself “Jessica is creating the story that ________.” This separates you from your thoughts and gives you space to do the next step.

3. Take healthy action: now that you’re re-wiring neural pathways, the final step is to take new again. When you’re emotionally activated, you probably reach for ice cream, wine, or dissociated scrolling— and that’s ok. That’s how you learned to cope. Now you’re going to practice self soothing in a way that makes you feel better and empowered, not worse and shameful.

NOTE: THIS STEP MUST BE VERY SMALL (drinking a full glass of water, getting your skin into the sun, journaling, or a walk.

Emotional regulation takes lots of practice, patience, and self compassion.

Bookmark and keep practicing. In a few months you’ll be amazed at your own resilience

When this association first started, my goal was simple: I hoped to build a sense of community, both professionally and personally and connect with others in the field of Reflexology.

I started practicing reflexology 25 years ago, not many people even knew what it was. I’d find myself explaining it over and over, just hoping people would give it a chance. Now, it’s amazing to see how far things have come, so many people seek out reflexology not just for stress relief, but as a meaningful part of their health and wellness journey. Many Dr’s are now referring reflexologists!

Along the way, I’ve had the chance to work with some truly incredible reflexologists here in New Hampshire.

My goal turned into something so much more. I’ve not only gained amazing colleagues and clients but also some wonderful friendships, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that. ❤️🦶🏻🙏

Dear members of the RANH community,

After much careful consideration,
The Reflexology Association of New Hampshire has made the difficult decision to dissolve the association officially at the end of our fiscal year June 30, 2025.

We have faced numerous challenges over the years, with one being the difficulty in recruiting enough new board members. This has left the same small group of individuals in leadership positions for extended periods, which is not sustainable.

We deeply appreciate all the support and the dedication of all members & followers who have contributed to the association over the years!

Reflecting with gratitude since our beginning in 2017, our association has

-Hosted The Maine Council of Reflexologists for a hand reflexology workshop.

-Hosted Helga Dittman from Germany for Emotional Release Reflexology.

-Cohosted Sue Rick’s Reflexology for palliative care with the Maine Council of Reflexologists.

-Helped coordinate The Reflexology Association of Americas biannual conference in 2024 in Portsmouth NH.

-Held numerous events around New Hampshire promoting Reflexology to the public.

-Had our governor sign a proclamation declaring World Reflexology Week in 2018.

-Raised and donated $ to Samaritans Purse to help with relief from Hurricane Helene.

We have a timeline of what our association has accomplished on our website.

The board agreed to continue with a website to have as an informational site for listing the pathway / how to become a licensed reflexologist in NH.

As we will no longer be a 503c non profit, we will no longer use “The Reflexology Association of NH”

The new name & website will be
Reflexology In NH

*This is for informational purposes only (not an organization accepting membership or volunteers)

Keeping our commitment to follow the bylaws, we held our final members meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Judi Scally’s office in Whitefield NH.
We enjoyed good food and of course traded reflexology sessions! Thank you to all who attended!

Although the transition may seem bittersweet and change can be challenging, it is also an opportunity for new beginnings and a more focused direction on our personal businesses and other commitments.

This Facebook book page will remain up under our new name and although we won’t be posting often, we will still share reflexology courses / ceu’s/ and updates pertaining to “Reflexology In NH”

Again Thank you to all of our members, followers, & those who have helped RANH over the years! Although this journey is ending, our footprints will always remain.

With love & appreciation,

Your board of directors

Work on your connection with nature. Intentionally take time to be in it as often as possible. Feel the wind and the silent wisdom. Nature will get you back into your body and out of your head quicker than anything else. It’s the ultimate co-regulator for your nervous system. Your ancestors knew it was therapy. Studies prove its benefits— but you don’t need them. Just pay attention to how you feel afterwards. Let the sun, the trees, and the earth remind you who you actually are

Infant Colic and the Benefits of Reflexology

What is Infant Colic?
Infant colic is a condition characterized by excessive crying and fussiness in otherwise healthy babies, typically occurring in the first few months of life. Colic is often defined by the "rule of threes": crying for more than three hours a day, more than three days a week, for three weeks or longer. The exact cause of colic is still unclear, but it may be related to factors like gastrointestinal discomfort, overstimulation, or even developmental changes.

Symptoms of Colic
Common signs of colic include:
* Intense crying episodes, often in the late afternoon or evening
* Clenching of fists and tense body
* Difficulty being soothed or comforted
* Signs of distress, such as arching the back

Traditional Approaches to Managing Colic
Parents often turn to various strategies to soothe colicky infants, including:

* Swaddling
* Rocking or gentle movement
* Feeding techniques
* Using pacifiers
* Ensuring a calm environment

Introducing Reflexology
Reflexology is a holistic therapy based on the idea that specific points on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to different body systems and organs. Practitioners believe that stimulating these points can promote relaxation, relieve stress, and improve overall well-being.

How Reflexology May Help with Colic

1. Promotes Relaxation: Reflexology sessions may help calm both the baby and the parents, creating a more peaceful environment that can reduce stress levels associated with colic.
2. Enhances Digestion: Certain reflexology points are believed to correspond with the digestive system. By applying gentle pressure to these areas, reflexology may alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort that could contribute to colic symptoms.
3. Encourages Bonding: Reflexology can provide an opportunity for parents to connect with their infants in a nurturing way, fostering emotional bonding and potentially reducing crying episodes through the comforting touch.
4. Improves Sleep Patterns: A more relaxed baby may experience improved sleep, which can also help ease colic symptoms. Better sleep can contribute to a more settled mood and reduced fussiness.

A study was published in 2001 that shows Thirty-three of 63 infants benefited with a reduction in crying of less than 90 minutes and 13 of these infants were relieved completely from colic.

Finding a qualified reflexologist experienced in working with children can ensure the therapy is appropriate and beneficial. Some states have licensing laws to practice reflexology while others do not. To be certain you are working with a qualified practitioner, ask if they are nationally certified by the American Reflexology Certification Board, the only reflexology testing agency in the country. You can search their site for a reflexologist in your area.

Infant colic can be a challenging experience for both babies and their parents. While traditional methods of soothing colicky infants remain popular, integrative therapies like reflexology may offer additional relief. By promoting relaxation and enhancing digestion, reflexology presents a gentle approach to supporting colicky infants and their families. As always, parents should prioritize open communication with healthcare providers to find the most effective strategies for managing colic.

Parents and caregivers, don’t forget to schedule your own reflexology sessions for stress reduction and relaxation.
As the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup so if you are investing in your own self care, your baby will benefit in return as well.
