Most women still think strength training is optional. It’s not!! Especially in your 40s and beyond.

Because behind the scenes, your body is changing. You’re losing muscle, bone density starts to decline, metabolism slows, and hormones shift. And if you’re not strength training the right way, you feel it—lower energy, weight that won’t budge, and a body that just doesn’t feel as strong or capable.

But when you train with intention, everything starts to change. You build muscle (which protects your metabolism), support your bones, move better in everyday life, and your body handles stress so much more efficiently.

At 35, I was a size 6.

At 40, I was a size 10.

And here’s the part that didn’t make sense…

I wasn’t doing anything different.

Same workouts.
Same effort.
Eating around 1400 calories.

If anything, I was trying harder.

But I kept gaining weight.

Feeling more tired.
Not recovering.
Not feeling like myself.

So I did what most women do… I asked my doctor.

And the answer?

“It happens when we get older.”
“Everything looks fine on my end.”

That didn’t sit right with me.

Because something was off.

And what I’ve learned since then changed everything…

A lot of what we feel in our 40s isn’t just hormones.

It’s our nervous system.

More sensitive.
More reactive to stress.
Slower to recover.

So when we keep doing more…
more workouts, more cardio, less food…

We’re not fixing it.

We’re adding more stress to a system that’s already overloaded.

That’s why I don’t coach women the same way anymore.

Because your body doesn’t need more punishment.

It needs structure.
It needs the right kind of strength.
It needs a plan that actually works with you now.

This is a hill I am willing to climb and die on and yeah, it might ruffle a few feathers a little but that OK

If you’re a woman over 35 and the main thing you’re doing is walking…

you’re probably missing the one thing your body actually needs most right now.

And listen—I’m not knocking walking.
I walk. I recommend it all the time.

It’s great for your heart, your head, stress all of that.

But it’s not enough to protect your body from what starts happening after 35.

Because whether we like it or not things start shifting.

You lose muscle (faster than you think)
Your metabolism slows down
Bone density starts to dip

And it’s sneaky. You don’t notice it right away.

That’s the part that gets people.

It doesn’t feel like a big deal… until one day it is.

Like when getting up off the floor isn’t as easy.
Or your balance feels a little off.
Or you just don’t feel as strong as you used to.

That’s your foundation.

And if you’re not doing something to build it up
it is slowly breaking down. No way around that.

The good news though—you’re not stuck with that.

Strength training changes the game.

Not just for how you look (although yes, that’s a perk)
but for how you move, how you feel, and how you age.

Alright… we need to talk about the Queen Mother of all F-words= Can you guess what it is???

Fiber. 😏

I know, I know. Not exactly the sexiest topic. But as a Nutrition Coach, I can’t NOT bring it up—because most of you are out here living your lives wildly under-fibered.

Like… the recommendation is around 25–38g per day.

And what are most adults getting?
Somewhere in the neighborhood of “not even close.”

And listen—I can usually tell 😅

If you’re:

Always hungry, even after you just ate
Bloated for no obvious reason
Low on energy by mid-afternoon
Struggling to stay consistent with weight loss
Or… let’s just say… things aren’t exactly moving like they should 🚽

There’s a very good chance fiber is the missing piece.

Fiber is kind of like that underrated friend who quietly keeps your whole life together by:

Helps you feel full (so you’re not raiding the pantry at 9pm)
Keeps your digestion on track
Supports stable energy (no crazy crashes)
And makes your gut a much happier place to live

And no—you don’t need to go from zero to chia-seed overload overnight.

Start simple:

Throw some berries on your breakfast
Choose whole grains instead of the white stuff
Add beans to literally anything (they don’t judge)

Okay… I did not expect the response I got from my last post!!

Between the comments, messages, and texts—it’s pretty clear this is hitting home for a lot of you.

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed working with women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond

It’s not that they’re doing nothing-

It’s that they feel like they need to do everything…
and because of that, they end up not starting at all.

Or they try to jump back into doing what they used to do —
and their body pushes back hard.

Here’s the truth most people don’t talk about:

At this stage of life, doing nothing doesn’t keep you the same…

It slowly moves you backward.

Less muscle.
Less strength.
Less energy.
More aches.
More frustration.

And it doesn’t take years to feel it… sometimes it’s months.

But here’s the part I want women to understand:

You don’t need to do everything.

You just need to start in a way that actually works for your body now.

That might look like:
• strength training 2–3x per week
• focusing on building muscle instead of just burning calories
• allowing for recovery instead of constantly pushing

Ladies let’s talk about something that almost no one in the fitness world is willing to talk about with women over 35…

Inflammation.

Not the buzzword kind you hear on morning TV I know but I think this is more important than what is on TV these days anyways!

The real kind that quietly creeps in and starts changing how your body feels… how you recover… and how your workouts actually work for you.

If you’re a woman in your late 30s, 40s or beyond, you may have noticed things like:

• feeling sore for days after a workout
• energy crashes that didn’t used to happen
• stubborn weight that seems to hang around no matter how “clean” you eat
• joints that suddenly feel cranky or stiff

Most women immediately blame themselves. Wondering what did I do now to cause this

They think:
“Maybe I just need to push harder.”
“Maybe I need more cardio.”
“Maybe I need to eat even less.”

But what’s often happening behind the scenes is chronic inflammation combined with hormonal shifts… and most traditional fitness programs unknowingly make that worse.

More stress.
More cortisol.
