Why Do I Help Families? This is a true story.

In August 2019 I went home to New York to visit my uncle.

I arrived and the Christmas tree was in the living room.

I was puzzled and confused.

Not wanting to be rude or insensitive, I said nothing. The Christmas tree was there like a big pink elephant in a room! I kept wondering and thinking, if that tree could talk what would it say?

I didn't want to pressure my 85 year old uncle. Slowly my uncle started to reveal why the Christmas tree was still in the living room in middle of August.

As he shared the story tears would roll down his face and I could do almost nothing to console him.

I realized this was the last Christmas he shared with his wife who got dementia at age 56.

He shared that he tried so hard to take care of his wife at home himself, but she would run out of the house. He finally had to do the right thing. He placed the love of life in a 24 hour care facility.

My uncle owned a small accounting business and ended paying 7K per month to have his wife cared for years.

I remember the emotional and psychological impact this had on him but the massive financial burden was weighing on him was incredible. He feared that he would eventually lose everything. At age 85 he was still running hia business because this was his love letter to his wife. His unrelenting work ethic to keep his wife's care paid for in cash every month.

My aunt and uncle passed away 2 years ago
