I’ve been hiding again…

The young and tender part of me that is afraid to be seen has been ruling.

When life gets scary, she wants to retreat. To pull the blanket over and close her eyes. She still shivers in fear.

I’m embracing this tiny version of me, as the powerful woman and mother I am. I tell her not to listen to the old stories that reiterate as many ways as you can say “you’re not good enough”.

I tell her she’s worthy and deserving of being seen and heard.

I tell her people are thirsty for her medicine.

She believes me, finally.

I heard these words yesterday and they struck me. It made me realize I haven’t written a poem of worth in over a year.

There was a time in my life where I was writing relentlessly. It was how I was processing my emotions. I needed to write.

Now, being in a time of peace, that creative aspect of myself has been left on the shelf gathering dust.

She waits and watches as day after day the children are fed and the dishes get washed. The meetings are held, the bed is made, the keys on the computer type in schedules and calendar dates ad infinitum.

Every sentence is as it should be. Order reigns.

I’m unclear about what the next step is in my quest to absolve the gap between mother and artist. Or if there even needs to be one…
