Madison Behavior Therapy

Madison Behavior Therapy We are the first and currently only Behavioral Health Center of Excellence- accredited Provider in t We do not believe there are “bad” children or teenagers.

Our staff is dedicated to providing support to the whole family and collaborating with parents and caregivers during treatment planning. We practice only the most current scientific research in applied behavior analysis and believe that all progress should be tracked with data. Target skills are broken down into small steps, so that the learner is provided with a greater probability for achieving success. Our compassionate and caring therapy team creates programs based upon each individual's interests, goals, and objectives. We manipulate reinforcers to create a fun and effective learning environment, which naturally encourages a client to learn and work independently. All therapy sessions are conducted on a 1:1 therapist to student ratio. Empirically based programs are used to increase socially appropriate behaviors and decrease maladaptive problem behaviors. Teams work in a cohesive and professional manner to increase the client's and his/her family’s overall quality of living. Problem (or “bad”) behaviors occur because they are serving a function, or “purpose”, for the individual. By assessing and understanding the purpose of the unwanted behavior, we can develop a treatment plan that decreases “problem” behaviors and increases positive alternative, replacement behaviors. We operate on a medical model, providing ABA therapy services in the home and community settings. We welcome collaboration with a child’s school team, as well as other medical professionals (OT, Speech therapist, psychologist) in order to provide consistency and ensure generalization across settings.

RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS NEEDED! Join the SEA LAB research study for families expecting an infant!

The ABC Study is a research project that aims to understand how children grow and develop through their daily experiences and relationships. As a participant, you and your child's other caregiver (if applicable) will be involved in study sessions during pregnancy and when your child is 1, 6, 12, and 18 months old. These study sessions will take place at your home, at our research lab at Vanderbilt University, and at the Vanderbilt Imaging Center where your child will undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to see how their brain is growing across the first year of life. MRI is safe for infants and has been used with infants for 20 years. It requires no medication and involves no radiation.

During the study visits, we will be asking you and your family questions about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We will also provide wearable devices to study family interaction patterns and learn more about your child's daily life. Overall, the study will take about 30 hours across the visits. If you complete all parts of the study, you can earn up to $1300, and we also provide small gifts, including 3D miniatures of your child's brain, and written reports on your child's development!

We understand that parents with young children are busy, so we offer flexible scheduling, including daytime, nights, and weekends. If you have other children, we can provide childcare by trained staff members during the sessions, and we can also help provide or cover the costs of transportation. We know that participating in a study like this might seem like a lot of work, but we hope to find families who are excited to be part of this one-of-a-kind research project.

If interested, call (615) 348-5752. email sealab@vanderbilt.edu, visit VUsealab.com, or scan the QR code to complete the interest form.

RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS NEEDED!

Does your child get upset about little things? Is it hard to predict what they will do?

We want to create new ways of measuring and predicting behavior. VKC researchers are seeking CHILDREN AGES 3-17 WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF AUTISM OR INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY WHO RECEIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (ABA) IN THE COMMUNITY.

If you participate:
-- You and your child will come to Vanderbilt or your regular ABA clinic for up to five sessions.
-- Each session will last 1-2 hours. Some will be with your regular therapist. Some will be with a study therapist.
-- We will talk to you about your child’s behavior and have you complete some forms.
-- Your child will do different things with therapists while we measure things like heart rate, breathing, and movement using special sensors.
-- We will also take video and make notes about the behavior that he or she shows.

*This is a voluntary research study.*

Families will receive a $40 gift card per visit (up to four visits) and a $90 gift card for the final visit.

To learn more, contact Amy R. Swanson at amy.r.swanson@vumc.org or (615) 322-6533.

RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS NEEDED!

Participate in Baby Research at Vanderbilt! Would you like to help us learn more
about how baby siblings respond to lights, sounds, and touch? We would love to talk to you if:
• You have a baby who is 18 months old or younger.
• You would like more information about your younger child’s development.

Participating families come to the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center for a series of appointments when they are between 12-18 months old, to complete fun sensory activities, developmental assessments, and other experimental tasks. They return
9 months later when they are between 21-27 months old and again after their
third and fifth birthday.

Participants will be compensated $20 per hour. Each appointment takes about 2-3 hours. Families can expect to receive $40 to $60 per appointment. Families will additionally receive a onetime $50 bonus for completion of all visits, at the first study time point.
