You can’t have a birthday without a foodventure, and this was Kinsey’s birthday foodventure choice! First of all, the service was outstanding, from the cashier enthusiastically explaining the menu and asking us questions to better give recommendations to the rest of the staff being attentive and polite. They even had management consistently touching tables. Now for the food: my leg and thigh order was tender and juicy, and the greens needed very little doctoring if any. Kinsey’s chicken tenders must’ve gone through GNC and bought some supplements on the way to the fryer, because they were huge. Prices were about as expected, especially considering the portion. Fair warning: there is a significant jump from medium to hot on the heat level. All-in-all, and excellent foodventure!!

South Huntsville has a new BBQ joint, and it’s a pretty good one, especially being part of a chain. We did our customary new BBQ place routine and shared the sampler platter. All of the meat was tender and juicy and had a good smoke flavor to it. They have a good variety of sauces from sweet to heat to mustard based to vinegar based, and all were tasty in their own way. Our sides were potato salad and corn pudding. The potato salad was fairly basic but good. The corn pudding tasted like what would happen if Mexican cornbread and bread pudding had a baby together. They also brought us out a sampling of peach cobbler, which was delicious. The pricing was reasonable, especially considering portion sizes, and the service was quite friendly. City BBQ might be just what South Huntsville needs in a BBQ restaurant.

Friday foodventure has us at yet another Mexican restaurant. This one is more of the style of Taco Mama’s or Little Rosie’s. Kinsey did the build your own burrito with chorizo, rice, and some other toppings. The chorizo was very greasy, and the burrito itself was rather small. I got the Antonio as soft tacos thinking the pineapple slaw as a topping would provide some bold flavor. The slaw was essentially grocery store slaw with canned pineapple sprinkled over it. They had a small salsa bar consisting of three types of salsa, with all three being very mild and bland. If I were to describe the sweet tea in terms of a marriage relationship, the sugar was sleeping on the couch today. Our meals and drinks were right around $35 after taxes and before tips. Our recommendation: try one of the many other Mexican restaurants within a mile of this place, so you can get larger portions and better flavors at a lower cost.

We finally got around to trying this place. Kinsey got a Belgian waffle and a gravy biscuit. I got the half Monterey club sandwich and cup of chicken with rice soup. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The drinks do not have prices listed, and there’s a reason. Kinsey’s sweet tea was $4 and was about as sweet as a divorce attorney. The service was friendly, but the prices were not appropriate for the quality and portion of the food. We’re both still hungry and might have to find food somewhere else (second foodventure maybe?)

Our Friday foodventure brings us to a place in Huntsville that been here for a little bit, but we’re just now getting around to trying them. Kinsey got the tenders with fries with buffalo sauce, and I got the High Society burger with tots. First off, the tots and fries tasted a little like the oil needed changing, but they were in dinner rush. The tenders were enormous and very juicy. I can’t help but wonder how many birds lost their lives just for Kinsey’s meal. The burger had a good bold flavor with the brie and pepper jelly making an excellent team. The service was really friendly and good, especially considering how busy they were and the fact that I suggested the girl being trained be our lead server. Definitely worth giving them a shot.

Kinsey needed to stop at Hobby Lobby on the way home from Vanderbilt, and there just happened to be a Mexican Restaurant next door. She got the Quesadilla Garcia, and I got the Flautas de Pollo. Both dishes were good, but the best part was the salsa verde on the flautas. Prices were a little higher than normal but not too much, and the service was friendly. They were busy but still tended to us effectively.

Well, looks like we’re going to have to ground Kinsey or come up with some form of adequate punishment, because she knew about this place and failed to bring me until now. We ordered the buffalo chicken pizza with sides of ranch, but the kitchen mistakenly put the ranch on the pizza. I personally liked it that way, but Kinsey asked for and received extra ranch. The pizza was really good with a nice crispy crust and solid brick oven taste. We also got their dessert pizza, which as yummy as it was messy and diabetes causing. The food was a little slow coming out, which was mainly due to them being busy. Our server was super friendly, and the price was quite reasonable considering the quality and quantity of the food

Kinsey got hangry about halfway through Connecticut, so we found this burger joint not too far from the interstate. The complimentary popcorn had a good Cajun seasoning on it. We shared the Cream Cheese Bacon Jam and the Wrangler burgers. Both burgers were very tasty and quite filling. We also got curly fries that came with Cajun seasoning and moose sauce. The fries were nice and crispy, and the moose sauce was delicious! The prices were very reasonable, and the service was superb.

We hit the “avoid tolls” button on the gps route home, and it took us through some neat little towns. One of which had this quaint tavern/restaurant in the downtown area. We got the Duffys chicken wrap with buffalo sauce inside and the raspberry turkey panini. Since they were split in half we both got a half of each sandwich. The wrap was very good and so full of ingredients that you couldn’t put it down for fear of it falling apart. The panini was packed full of meat and ingredients. The cheese and jam mixture on the panini gave a very pleasant and surprising flavorful combination which we’ll likely crave later. The house made chips were also a very good addition to the meal as they were very well cooked however, needed a bit more seasoning. Overall, it was a great experience, the food was delicious and filling, and the service friendly the detour well worth it.

No trip to Maine would be complete without fresh lobster. We saw this neat little place on our way into Acadia National Park and decided to eat dinner here on the way out. The lobster was good with lots of meat in it. The coleslaw and potato salad were decent but obviously were not intended to be the star of the plate. Service was super friendly, and the prices were very reasonable.

While at Acadia National Park, we decided to try the park’s restaurant (at least the one that was open). We each tried a popover with butter and strawberry jam, and those were very good. Kinsey had the half turkey sandwich with clam chowder, and I had the popover pot pie. All three were delicious and possibly the best tasting of each we’ve had. The service was super friendly, and the view was phenomenal! All this despite the wind being rather chaotic.
