Another first for Huntsville Hospital! 🎉

We’re proud to share that we are now the first — and only — Anticoagulation Center of Excellence in Alabama.

This prestigious designation reflects our commitment to delivering the highest level of care for patients taking antithrombotic medications, which help prevent or treat dangerous blood clots and reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and venous thromboembolism.

The Anticoagulation Centers of Excellence program recognizes hospitals that meet rigorous standards across five key pillars of patient care — ensuring safe, consistent and high-quality anticoagulation management. With this achievement, Huntsville Hospital joins a select group of just 150 Centers of Excellence worldwide.

A special thank you to Pharmacy Clinical Specialist Monroe Crawley for leading this effort and helping make this milestone possible! 👏

We are excited to introduce Cody Sewell as the new director of our Cardiology I and IV Units! 🎊

Cody’s journey with Huntsville Hospital is a true homegrown success story. Since joining us in 2013 as a phlebotomist, his caregiving talents and winning personality have made him a natural leader.

Cody has held nearly every role in our cardiac units — from patient care aide and unit secretary to RN and charge nurse. Today, he oversees 42 patient rooms and more than 100 dedicated cardiac caregivers. ❤️

HH holds a special place in Cody’s heart — it’s where he met his wife Jessica (now an Emergency Department nurse). The couple attended nursing school together and live in Falkville with their two young sons.

“I’ve had so many people who have supported me in my career journey,” says Cody. “I wouldn’t be in this position without them.”

Congratulations, Cody! We are so proud to have you leading the way in Cardiology. 🩺✨

🗞️ Big news for sickle cell care in North Alabama!

We are now offering outpatient Red Blood Cell Exchange (RBCx) for adults — a game-changer for local sickle cell patients like O.J. Lewis.

O.J., a pharmacy tech here at Huntsville Hospital, was the very first person in line when our Dialysis Unit launched the specialized treatments last month.

What is RBCx?

▪️It replaces abnormal, sickle-shaped cells with healthy donor cells. 🩸

▪️The process takes just 90 minutes. ⏲️

▪️It helps prevent painful flare-ups, anemia, and organ damage. 🙌

As O.J. puts it: "When you get that exchange, you just feel better because you have healthier blood flowing through your body."

Meet Lessie Jones 🤍
In honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the volunteers who help make a difference across our hospital every day.

For the past 26 years, Lessie has been a familiar and friendly face in our hospital gift shop. Every Thursday, she shows up ready to serve, greeting visitors, and helping families find the perfect item.

“I just love meeting people and greeting them. A lot of times, they come in here and just need someone to listen.” She shared.

Lessie is turning 90 this September, and her dedication is a reminder that making a difference never goes out of style. We’re so grateful for Lessie and all of our volunteers who help create a better experience for our patients and visitors every day.

This past weekend, Huntsville Hospital was proud to support the Huntsville Kidney Walk & Celebration alongside the Alabama Kidney Foundation, with our own Jeff Samz serving as honorary event chair.

Hundreds of participants came together to raise awareness and critical funding for local patients living with kidney disease. More than 10,000 Alabamians rely on dialysis, and over 1,000 are currently waiting for a kidney transplant.

Funds raised help remove real barriers to care, covering essentials like medications and transportation to life-sustaining treatments — easing the burden for patients and families across North Alabama.

Thank you to everyone who walked, supported and helped make a difference in our community. 💚
