Here's a gentle reminder for 3 somatic movement classes in August. let me know if you can attend, and I recommend early registration for the Runner's workshop on Aug 24. I expect a full house and may offer a second class if there is overflow. registration by Wed 21 would be appreciated. If you are last minute, just check with me. Please spread the word to anyone you know with chronic pain, postural issues, or someone who wants to learn some innovative and effective self care techniques! thanks!
warmly, Laura
Please note different times than usual for these workshops
Sat Aug 17, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM “Somatic Conditioning” takes this gentle re-patterning work a bit farther into the land of strengthening, and offers ideas of how to apply these innovative techniques to your more challenging physical work outs, weights, to make them more effective and leave your body more mobile, giving muscles their “optimum resting length”.
Sat Aug 24, 2:00-4:00 PM “Somatic Solutions for Runners, Athletes”
offers neuromuscular re-patterning techniques that recalibrate brain to muscle function for improved mobility, less pain, and enhanced performance. Focus will be on lower torso, legs, and feet. Once you learn these self care methods, you will never be without them!
This workshop will include:
1. an introduction to clinical somatic techniques, mat work and standing sequences.
2. Illustrated materials for your home somatic practice
3. A “somatic warm up for runners” that is more effective and safer than the stretching preparation you may be using currently.
Tues Aug 27, 6:30-8:30, “Restoring full twist to Spine and Torso” focuses on increasing the spiral potential in your body and freeing your reach and stride to its full potential in the process. Humans walk in a unique way, rotating around a central axis. By freeing the rotation to the max, your walking and running will change, and your head will more easily turn to look over your shoulder, for safer driving.
These techniques developed by the late neuromuscular pioneer, Thomas Hanna PhD, are powerful yet gentle making them appropriate not only for athletes, but also movers of all ages and fitness levels. Wear flexible clothing, socks and bring a medium size towel to use as a prop. Cost: $35 Cash or check at the door. RSVP to Lmgates51@gmail.com, or call 718 350 0637. Space is limited, advance registration recommended and by 8/21 if possible.
