Job Summary:
As a Dental Assistant at Hutchinson Family Dental, you will work closely with our dentists to assist in a variety of clinical procedures while ensuring patient comfort. You will help prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, assist with patient exams, take X-rays, and support the overall operations of the practice. Your attention to detail, clinical skills, and positive attitude will help ensure that each patient has an outstanding experience.

Key Responsibilities:
● Assisting with Clinical Procedures:
○ Assist the dentist during procedures by handing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a sterile field.
○ Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment before and after each procedure.
○ Assist in taking X-rays and ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed.
○ Perform dental charting and record patient treatment notes in the practice management system.
○ Prepare patients for treatment, making them feel comfortable and ensuring they understand what will happen during the procedure.
● Patient Care and Comfort:
○ Greet patients warmly and ensure they feel comfortable throughout their visit.
○ Provide pre- and post-procedure instructions to patients.
○ Offer emotional support to anxious or nervous patients and make them feel at ease.
○ Monitor patient comfort and help manage any concerns or questions they may have during procedures.
● Infection Control & Sterilization:
○ Follow strict infection control procedures in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines.
○ Ensure all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained.
○ Maintain cleanliness and organization of the treatment rooms, ensuring a safe and sanitary work environment.
● Administrative Support:
○ Assist with patient check-in and check-out as needed, including confirming appointment details and scheduling follow-ups.
○ Provide patient education on treatment options, proper care, and oral hygiene recommendations.
○ Help with patient records, updating medical histories, and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
● Team Collaboration:
○ Collaborate with dentists, hygienists, and other staff to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient office operations.
○ Provide support during complex procedures, ensuring everything runs smoothly and patients feel supported.
○ Participate in team meetings to discuss office needs and patient care improvements.

Qualifications:
● Education & Certification:
○ High school diploma or equivalent required.
○ Graduation from an accredited dental assistant program is preferred.
○ CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain).
● Experience:
○ Previous experience as a dental assistant is preferred but not required.
○ Experience with dental radiography, sterilization, and patient care is a plus.
○ Familiarity with dental practice management software is a bonus.
● Skills:
○ Strong clinical skills and knowledge of dental procedures and instruments.
○ Ability to perform both routine and specialized tasks with attention to detail.
○ Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures and make patients feel at ease.
○ Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently.
○ Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
