Ears to Hear - Revelation Revealed

Ears to Hear - Revelation Revealed "What is the Apocalypse? It is God's revelation of Jesus Christ. Establishes His Kingdom."

It reveals Jesus Christ in the future as He judges His church, redeems His believers, renders judgment upon the world.

Jesus' human lineage is from Judah, through David. He overcame the trials of life, the temptation of Satan in the wilderness, the terrors of death, and the bonds of the grave. He is Victor now over law, sin, death, and hades. He has paid the redemption price of our forfeited inheritance. He is the true redeemer.

“Our Lord and God, you deserve to receive glory, honor, and power because you created everything. Everything came into existence and was created because of your will.” Revelation 4:11

John saw a rainbow encircled around the Throne (Rev 4:3). The rainbow is the token of God's covenant with all flesh never again to destroy the earth or its inhabitants as He did in the flood (Gen 9:11-17). Although the Throne is a seat of judgment, the rainbow confirms that it is not a Throne of destruction.

The apostle John was called up into heaven to be shown, not what existed in heaven at the time, but "the things which must take place after" what he had already seen and was told to write about.

The Savior speaks of the seven churches as involving a "mystery," i.e. having significance beyond what appears upon the surface. The command to hear and consider what is said is given with such urgency and universality as to argue something significant to ALL people of ALL time.

The whole Revelation is encircled with a promise of blessing to everyone that reads and keeps it, not just those in the seven churches. These seven churches, besides being literal historical churches, stand for the entire Christian body in all periods of history.

When Scripture uses symbols, it tells you. Unless told otherwise, we ought to take what was written as meaning what it says. That which is symbolic and mysterious must have the mystery revealed to be correctly understood. Then what is revealed is no longer a mystery. The Revelation is not a book of symbols and mysteries. Its purpose is to reveal, as its own title declares; and revelations are not hidden mysteries.

The Apocalypse (Revelation) starts with a presentation of Christ revealing Himself in His relationship to His church. Christ is not one thing for one church and something else for another. Nor is He one thing for one age and another thing for another age. He is “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

John said that when he saw Christ, he "fell at his feet as dead." If John was so overwhelmed with this vision of the Savior, upon whose chest he had leaned and with whose power he was so familiar, how will it be with us when we first enter into His presence, when we see Him in all His glory, when our eyes meet His?

There is no basis for imputing figurative impressions into John's record of what he said he saw. When John describes what he sees, and what he sees is figurative, he is TOLD that it is figurative and what the figurative language stands for. See Revelation 1:19-20.

We’re reminded that Jesus loves us & freed us from our sins by His own blood. We’re given assurance that He is coming & everyone shall see Him. His followers are to watch expectantly for His return. His coming return was promised by Christ Himself, proclaimed by apostles, believed by early Christians, & is the base-line for all true believers today. Without Christ’s coming return there is no Christianity!

It’s our nature to want to know what to expect in the future. It’s always important for us to be forewarned regarding what will happen in the future. The person who doesn’t shape today with regard to what can be foreseen acts as a fool–in the things of both God & the world. There’s an important message in the doctrine of Christ’s return–these things “will [swiftly] take place.” If important then, how much more now?

Our English word APOCALYPSE comes from the Greek word APOKALYPSIS meaning “a revelation, appearing, or showing which was not previously known or observed.” The opposite is APOKRYPHOS meaning “something concealed, hidden, not authenticated.” The Apocalypse or Revelation of Jesus Christ, therefore, is … Christ Himself being revealed and disclosed. This is the key to the book of The Revelation.
