A little late on my post but this is right before we ran the Christmas Gift 5k this last Saturday! My son Davin has been working hard getting his miles up. He’s finished two 5k races since thanksgiving and now has his eyes set on a 10k sometime this summer!

I think it’s so important to expose kids to as many physical activities so they can find the ones they love. Davin’s drive to want to push himself has made me want to push myself as well.

I have definitely put this off because of the fear of stepping outside of my comfort zone but like they say if your not going anywhere your not moving. Sooooooo this summer I will be attempting my first Marathon July 29th here at the Idaho Falls Marathon!

31 weeks and counting!

“Fatigue makes cowards of us all”

I was listening to Can’t Hurt Me written by David Goggins this morning during my sauna session. I’ve listened to this book several times but today this quote really struck a chord with me.

Truth is I have been struggling lately. Yes all of us go through times of mental and physical fatigue but climbing out of this two month rut has been difficult. This quote couldn’t be more true. When my mind is tired it tells me to quit. It wants to be comfortable laying on the couch or enjoying that extra scoop of ice cream.

I know that I am capable of more effort than I have been putting forth but I have let fatigue and my emotions make decisions for me. Your mind has a governor just like an engine that keeps you from stepping outside of your comfort zone. The problem is greatness, growth, and most things we want come to us when we step out of that comfort zone.

We are capable of more than we think. Gain control of your mind and put in that extra hour at work. Do just one more rep. Read one more book. Doing hard things makes the next hard thing easier. Push yourself just a little further than you did yesterday. I’m going to!

My son Davin is training for his very first 5k on thanksgiving day! We started yesterday with a 2 mile run and he did amazing! A little over 2 miles is his furthest distance he has ran to date so we are slowly working up to the 3.1 miles of a 5k. Kids have shown to do better in school, have less anxiety and worry, and pay attention better when they exercise. Davin will turn 12 in just a couple weeks and he loves working out and doing physical activities. He plays Football, Basketball, and does Grit League in the summer. It’s so important to expose your kids to many different forms of physical activity so they can truly find something they love that they can use the rest of their life to stay fit.

People ask me all the time. “How do you stay motivated.” Truth is I’m not always. Motivation is a luxury and you should use it when you have it! What do you when you don’t? Find your why!

These pictures are my why! The first was taken 9 years ago. I was newly divorced, relying on alcohol to get through and I wasn’t present a lot of the time. I was on my way to a very short and disease filled life. On those days now when I’m not motivated I look at newer pictures and the adventures and great memories we have made and it makes me realize how lucky I am that I made the changes in my life physically and mentally that I did. If I had not I don’t know that I would be here to experience them.

My “why” is being able to spend as much time on this earth as I can making memories with these kids. I know everyone that is reading this has someone who loves them and wants them to be around as long as they can. Make exercise a priority. Eat healthy natural foods and be there for those people that love you. They need you!

It would have been real easy to stay in bed this morning, but it’s better to be consistent then to be good sometimes. We need adversity to grow. Even if it’s one small step at a time. Keep pushing, and do something hard.
