A Girl That Senses, Feels & Moves
Rena May has studied and taught movement internationally over the last ten years. Her first exposure to yoga came via early training in the theatre, where she immediately took to the movement arts and physical story telling as a means of personal expression. Drawing on her experience in Korean Martial Arts, Classical Indian Dance, Yin, Restorative, Hatha and most recently the Taoist philosophy and archetypal form of Katonah Yoga, her classes emphasize imagination, grace and a sense of play. She is in love with all that is ordinary, subtle and slow and invites others into her process for new understandings of time and space. Rena has uncovered profound healing potential in the delicate currents of the subtle body and the soul-recovery available from careful attention placed on these phenomena that inhabit a very different time-space scale. This same thread runs through her work as a spoken word poet and an artist, where lyrical and visual rhythms float on the transience of breath and the tiniest of moments can expand melodically to reveal an alternate dimension. In all quiet places, may vast splendor sing.
Rena feels indebted to other great teachers and beings with whom she resonates strongly and hopes her work contributes something new to the various trails they have been blazing. Heavily influenced by Nevine Michaan, Tias Little and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and the rich dialogues they have brought to the world of movement. May we receive your light and learn to see!
