With the generous help of an anonymous donor, we are able to provide 2 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator): one for St. Maron Independence and one for St. Maron Cleveland! We plan to purchase classes in the future from the American Red Cross to train parishioners on how to use an AED and administer CPR. To the generous donor, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for providing this selfless gift and investment for our community.

From the American Red Cross:

An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

Of course, you can – and should – request the assistance of trained medical professionals. However, because the average response time for first responders once 911 is called is 8-12 minutes, and for each minute defibrillation is delayed, the odds of survival are reduced by approximately 10%, having access to an AED and knowing how to use one, is critical.

Here is a message from researchers at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University:

Nurse researchers at Case Western Reserve University developed a 15- to 20-minute survey about family caregiving during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are caring for a loved one with an existing chronic condition, they would love to hear about your experience!
We understand that you are very busy and receive many similar requests. We appreciate your participation in helping them make your voices heard. If you complete the survey, you can enter into a drawing for one of four $25 gift cards. Thank you again for your time and feel free to pass this post along to your family, friends, and colleagues! You can access the survey at: https://redcap.case.edu/surveys/?s=E7TE4MYR4F
