Our Story
The purpose of Indee-Go Healthy is to enhance, promote, and advocate for the overall wellness of Independence-area residents both present and future. “Overall health” targets the Six Dimensions of Wellness Model including physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and occupational health. Indee-Go Healthy membership consists of organizational representation and Independence-area residents who have a vested interest in the health of the community. These members collaborate to share health visions and concerns for the Independence-area and to strategize means to create and promote a healthier population. Originally formed in the fall of 2011 when a group of citizens gathered in attempts of becoming a “Blue Zone” community. Although Independence was not selected to become a Blue Zone, the members felt that the goals of Indee-Go Healthy (IGH) were valuable. IGH members chose to continue their work to make Independence a healthier community for its citizens. In 2013 the City of Independence and IGH received the Iowans Fit for Life grant in the amount of $10,000.
