Professional leaders facilitate a process soon after critical stress incidents in order to support recovery and link those in need to available resources.

What are the steps to CISM?

Prevention – upon request, the team will provide a short program to personnel on critical stress incidents, recognition and management.

Defusing – immediately after a critical incident, the team can meet with personnel or individuals to relieve the immediate effects of critical stress.

Debriefing – an informal meeting (held within 3 to 10 days) will be held with those affected to discuss the short and long term effects of the critical incident.

Referral – the team will help guide individuals to additional resources when needed.

Outreach – the team will provide information about CISM to the community.

The Indiana County CISM Team meets quarterly to review any incidents and update members of activities. The Team will provide services in surrounding counties too - and is not restricted to Indiana County.
