This strategy has been a life saver. When I'm working with someone who is highly distractible or hyperverbose, I can feel my own brain having a hard time focusing!
I find being super clear and communicative about the client-centered goals for a session helps us all start focused. Writing them down one at a time is even more helpful.
And taking mental breaks helps meet our patients where they (and their ๐ง s) are! Just like physical breaks. We aren't "doing nothing," we're teaching attention strategies through therapeutic breaks.
What are your strategies for helping folks (including yourself! ๐
) stay focused during a session?
