At Foundations Studio, we love welcoming new clients and introducing them to Pilates! We believe in giving our clients all the tools they need to get the most out of their Pilates journey.

That’s why we require clients to have prior experience on the Pilates reformer, attend one of our Intro to Pilates reformer classes, or schedule a private Pilates reformer appointment before participating in our Group Pilates Reformer Classes.

If you're new to Pilates and want to try our mat Pilates classes, prior experience is not required. We do strongly recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to class. Arriving early gives you and the instructor time to discuss your current and past health history and your goals. This helps the instructor provide modifications as needed to ensure you get the maximum benefits from your class.

We're shaking things up, and now Wednesdays are dedicated to wellness. Pilates What will move to Mondays 😁

Today, we want to highlight the wellness and mat-based classes we offer at Foundations Studio.

If you're looking to tone up and get a full-body workout, try our Mat Pilates, Barre, or Yoga Strength classes.

Need to reset, stretch, and relax your mind and body? Check out our Yin Restorative, Myofascial Release Yin Yoga, Stretch & Restore, or Stretching Soul Sound Bath classes.

Are you currently pregnant or postpartum? You'll love our Mamaste Strong Prenatal and Postpartum class. Feel free to bring your non-crawling little ones along.

All of our class sizes are intentionally kept small to ensure clients receive individual attention and modifications as needed to provide a safe and effective workout. If classes aren’t for you, we also offer private appointments.

At Foundations, new clients can try our intro 3-pack to get a feel for our classes. We do not require a membership; instead, clients can purchase single classes or packages of 4, 8, or 12.

Pilates is a mind-body, full-body strength training workout mainly using low-impact body weight resistance, created by Joseph Pilates.

Mat Pilates is performed on a mat with controlled movements to strengthen all muscle groups while engaging the core, with an emphasis on breathing techniques.

In Foundations Studio Mat Pilates classes, we limit participant numbers to 10 to ensure the instructor can monitor and tailor each movement specifically for you. This allows you to experience the true benefits of a Pilates class: core and total body strength, alignment, mobility, balance, and flexibility.

International Pilates Day is a day to celebrate Joseph Pilates and Pilates.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our classes today. We loved meeting the newcomers and, of course, enjoyed seeing our regular clients!

A special thank you to Gabbie for teaching, Thomas from Restore Hyper Wellness and Raquel & Lexi from Knead Therapeace for spoiling everyone with compression boots and massages.

In honor of this Saturday being International Pilates Day, we thought it would be fitting to talk about the founder of Pilates. Yes, Pilates is the last name of an actual person, which is why it should always be spelled with a capital P!

Joseph Pilates was born in 1883 in Mönchengladbach, Kingdom of Prussia. His father was an award-winning gymnast, and his mother was a naturopath. When Joseph was young, he had asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever, which led him to dedicate his life to improving his physical strength.

He participated in gymnastics, bodybuilding, jiu-jitsu, and boxing. He believed that the causes of poor health were lifestyles, poor posture, and inefficient breathing. Joseph developed a series of exercises, techniques, and equipment to teach his methods.

During World War I, while living in England, Joseph was placed in preventative confinement by the British authorities. It was during this time that he refined his methods, which he later called “Contrology,” or, as we know it today, Pilates. His method was used to rehabilitate injured war veterans.

In 1925, Joseph Pilates moved to America, where he met his wife, Clara. The two founded a studio in New York City and built a following among dancers and members of the performing arts community. Even when Joseph was unable to perform the exercises himself, he continued to teach his method into old age.

And that is who we have to thank for developing the true method of Pilates—thank you, Mr. Joseph Pilates! 👏
