Try Oil Pulling for a healthier mouth in recognition of National Dental Hygienists Month.

How Does Oil Pulling Work?

When you swish oil around your mouth, it mixes with your saliva and draws out bacteria, food particles, and toxins from between teeth and around the gums. Since many microbes in the mouth have fatty outer membranes, oil can bind to them and help remove them when you spit the oil out.

Benefits of Oil Pulling

1. Reduces oral bacteria: Target bacteria that contribute to bad breath, plaque, and gum inflammation.
2. Supports gum health: By lowering inflammation and gently massaging gums, oil pulling may help maintain healthy tissue.
3. Naturally whiten teeth: Regular practice can gently lift some surface stains without abrasion.

How to Oil Pull

1. Choose your oil: Choose an organic, cold-pressed coconut oil.
2. Take about 1 tablespoon: (You can start with 1–2 teaspoons at first.)
3. Swish in your mouth: Gently push and pull the oil between and around teeth working up to 10 minutes, twice a day. Avoid swallowing.
4. Spit it out: When finished, spit the oil into a trash can (not the sink, as oil can clog drains).
5. Rinse your mouth: Use warm water or salt water, then brush your teeth as usual.
