Class IV laser therapy targets plantar fasciitis at its source using photobiomodulation, where powerful near-infrared light penetrates the inflamed plantar fascia. This technology increases cellular energy (ATP) production directly in the damaged tissue, accelerating the healing of the micro-tears, causing your heel pain. The laser simultaneously reduces inflammation, stimulates blood flow to this poorly vascularized area, and triggers natural pain-relieving endorphins—effectively addressing both pain and underlying causes.

Initial treatments aim to decrease inflammation and reduce the stress on the plantar fascia so that it can begin to heal.

Examples of these therapies include:
-Ice therapy
-Anti-inflammatory medications
-Stretching exercises
-Wearing sufficiently supportive shoes
-Taping the foot
-Wearing a splint at night

When conservative methods fail to resolve plantar fasciitis heel pain fully, your Indianapolis podiatrist may recommend physical therapy, cortisone injections, or more advanced treatments

Left untreated, this condition can worsen to the point where every step is painful or allow small tears in the plantar fascia to partially or entirely rupture, resulting in a more extended, more painful recovery period. Indy Podiatry offers conservative to advanced plantar fasciitis treatments.

As we step into the New Year, it feels a little bittersweet at Indy Podiatry. This is our first year without Dr. Helms by our side, but his legacy continues to guide everything we do. We are so excited for the great things to come in 2026. Cheers to new beginnings!

Expert care doesn't have to feel intimidating.

At Indy Podiatry, we combine modern treatment with a warm, welcoming environment - and Dr. Rachel Chhiba is a perfect example of that. Her friendly, approachable style helps patients feel comfortable, confident, and cared for from the moment they walk in.

Because great care starts with trust.

Yesterday marked the end of an era. After practicing since 1988 and building the practice we call home, like his sash says:
THE LEGEND HAS RETIRED.
We often jokingly (and lovingly) referred to Dr. Michael Helms as “Daddy” in the office, but that’s because to our team he was more than just a doctor or boss - he was a steady leader, a mentor and very much a father figure who shaped both our careers and character. We are endlessly grateful for 37 years of leadership, compassion and a legacy that we will continue in his honor. His impact reaches far beyond the walls of Indy Podiatry, it lives on in the patients he cared for, the colleagues he mentored and the standard of care he set for all of us. Staff and patients alike will miss him more than words can say, but we’re excited for everything ahead in his well-earned retirement. So a BIG CONGRATS TO DR. HELMS🥳🎉 (and thoughts and prayers to the rest of us while we adjust to life without him.)

Of course, the video cuts off right before Dr. Helms says, “but we still have work to do.” - some habits never retire.
