Does anyone have a direct contact at U.S. Fish & Wildlife?
Several of my neighbors and I are dealing with aggressive red-shouldered hawks that are actively attacking us. I have personally been attacked twice & last week it drew blood!!! Another neighbor was attacked just getting his mail and ended up going to immediate care & given antibiotics.
We have contacted Indiana DNR, but because these birds are federally protected, our options are extremely limited. I have applied for a migratory bird depredation permit from USFWS with the required documentation from a USDA federal biologist at Purdue confirming they are red shoulder hawks. The biologist said Hendricks County is becoming a hotspot for these hawks & they are getting more aggressive. Even the Brownsburg school system is dealing with a hawk problem. Unfortunately, approval for this permit can take up to 60 days. In the meantime, DNR advises us to carry umbrellas or wear helmets just to go outside in our own yards!!! This is unacceptable! We are being held hostage inside our homes because of these birds who apparently have more rights than humans do!!!
If anyone has contacts, resources at USFWS or can possibly gain media attention that can help us with this increasingly dangerous situation, please message me or share this post. Thanks!
