In this season of thanksgiving, we wanted to take a moment to share with the world what we’re thankful for here at CISS.

We are, of course, thankful for the people we serve and the many ways they bring purpose, light and joy to our lives. However, we’re most thankful for our direct support professionals (DSPs) and all they do for the people we serve. They are our heart and soul.

DSPs give up their holidays because help with daily living doesn’t stop for holidays. They prepare meals, including holiday meals, for those who aren’t visiting family or have no family to visit.

We appreciate our DSPs. They’re compassionate, hardworking, loving and committed to the people they serve. They’re who we’re most thankful for in this season of thanksgiving.

We couldn’t do what we do without them.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day. Here at CISS, we take mental health seriously. We recognize that mental health affects everyone at some point in their lives, whether through personal experience or an experience with a relative, friend, etc. We pride ourselves on looking at the big picture when our employees are affected and how best we can support them during difficult times. Struggling with mental health is nothing to be ashamed of.

We here at CISS strive to do our part to normalize the conversation, educate on how to identify and ask for help, and connect anyone going through a difficult time with resources to help them. All employees have access to an employer-paid service through First Stop Health which covers medical and mental health treatment through their telehealth program. If you are currently struggling with mental health, do not stay silent. We all have a story, and your story is safe here. Your journey is your own, but you don’t have to go alone.

Community Integration Support Services is excited to announce that the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) is issuing a limited time grant funding opportunity to support our direct care workforce!! CISS is looking forward to utilizing the funding in the following ways to invest in our Direct Support Professionals:

1.) 25% of grant funds will be given in the form of an Acuity Bonus as an incentive for working in difficult to staff geographic locations or working with difficult to staff high risk clientele.

2.) 30% of grant funds will be given in the form of a Shift Premium Bonus for staff working on an emergency basis (e.g., COVID, flu coverage, crisis, severe weather, etc.), covering emergency shift openings, or working in difficult to staff shifts (weekend, 3rd shift).

3.) 15% of grant funds will be given in the form of Transportation Bonus/Pay per assessed individual staff need to ensure staff can access their assigned work site/client.

4.)20% of grant funds will be given in the form of Retention Bonuses given at set retention increments per retention milestones to include 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, and 1+ years.

5.)Up to 10% of grant funds may be utilized to support additional Payroll Taxes created by the grant dollars.


All bonuses will be given per shift worked and will be included on DSP paychecks (biweekly). Other methods of payment such as gas cards may also be utilized.

Timing wise, our goal is to use the funding as soon as possible so that we can provide immediate funding to support our workforce. Please reach out to Shannon Bess, Director of Quality Assurance, with any questions regarding how funds will be spent.
