If I get dementia, I’d like my family to hang this wish list up on the wall where I live. I want them to remember these things.

1a. Every time you enter the room announce yourself. “Hi Mom- it’s Margaret.”

NEVER ask- Do you know who I am??? That causes anxiety.

1. If I get dementia, I want my friends and family to embrace my reality.

2. If I think my spouse is still alive, or if I think we’re visiting my parents for dinner, let me believe those things. I’ll be much happier for it.

3. If I get dementia, don’t argue with me about what is true for me versus what is true for you.

4. If I get dementia, and I am not sure who you are, do not take it personally. My timeline is confusing to me.

5. If I get dementia, and can no longer use utensils, do not start feeding me. Instead, switch me to a finger-food diet, and see if I can still feed myself.

6. If I get dementia, and I am sad or anxious, hold my hand and listen. Do not tell me that my feelings are unfounded.

7. If I get dementia, I don’t want to be treated like a child. Talk to me like the adult that I am.

8. If I get dementia, I still want to enjoy the things that I’ve always enjoyed. Help me find a way to exercise, read, and visit with friends.

9. If I get dementia, ask me to tell you a story from my past.

10. If I get dementia, and I become agitated, take the time to figure out what is bothering me.

11. If I get dementia, treat me the way that you would want to be treated.

12. If I get dementia, make sure that there are plenty of snacks for me in the house. Even now if I don’t eat I get angry, and if I have dementia, I may have trouble explaining what I need.

13. If I get dementia, don’t talk about me as if I’m not in the room.

14. If I get dementia, don’t feel guilty if you cannot care for me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s not your fault, and you’ve done your best. Find someone who can help you, or choose a great new place for me to live.

15. If I get dementia, and I live in a dementia care community, please visit me often.

16. If I get dementia, don’t act frustrated if I mix up names, events, or places. Take a deep breath. It’s not my fault.

17. If I get dementia, make sure I always have my favorite music playing within earshot.

18. If I get dementia, and I like to pick up items and carry them around, help me return those items to their original place.

19. If I get dementia, don’t exclude me from parties and family gatherings.

20. If I get dementia, know that I still like receiving hugs or handshakes.

21. If I get dementia, remember that I am still the person you know and love.”

Do you wonder how it works??

Our referrals come from word of mouth. This week I met two new families that need help with caring for their families.

The first family was referred by a woman that Hosanna cared for her mother through end of life and then also her father.

The second referral came from a woman that we helped care for her father through end of life.

Once these referrals come in I pray about if we are meant to take them and if God has the right caregivers that will be called to join in their care.

We don’t advertise, we don’t pay for higher levels in a Google search.

We let God make all the connections and TRUST him to provide all that each client needs.

THANK YOU to all of you that continue to refer to Hosanna and THANK YOU to all the faithful caregivers that are walking in their calling ❤️❤️

Because of the eclipse yesterday I did an 11 hour shift with a client.

I didn’t know her routine and flow like her care team does.
She had to walk me through the specifics of her daily details and it was a little hard on both of us.

I walked away reminded that each of the men and women called to give care for Hosanna are such an incredible blessing to each client!

We work hard to have the same caregivers on a persons team consistently so the flow is easy and the care is consistent and filled with love.

THANK YOU to each of you who walk this walk and provide the best care out there❤️❤️

Hosanna is hiring!
We have a dayshift position open that would be about 25 hours per week.
This would fit very well for a mom that is working around a school schedule.
Must have a car, insurance and a back ground check is mandatory per state guidelines.

The most important requirement is to have a kind heart and love the elderly.

Please reach out to Tuesdae at 317-847-2065 for any questions and to set up an interview!

I lost my own mother way too young (she was 70).
She had dementia and if you have walked out the journey of dementia you know that in so many ways you lose the person long before they leave this world.

My mom was a career woman, a nurse and a natural leader so she would celebrate and guide me as my own nursing career was walked out.

As 2 of my daughters became nurses also you could see the pride she carried in lighting that multigenerational torch.

But gone were the days of being able to ask what she thought of me starting a business or staying the course in “corporate” nursing.

Instead, assessing the decline and safety factors attached to that became the normal stance. My mother stopped eating, and some horribly difficult decisions had to be made.

My sister and I prayed about a feeding tube and keeping the body going while her mind was now a source of frustration for her. She had lost the ability to express herself and words were so difficult to find.

We knew where she was going because my Mama LOVED the Lord and so we let this unfold while we sat close by and made sure she was loved.

24 hour care was brought in for the last 8
Months of her life and God brought some incredible
woman to walk with us.

I bring you this long and personal story this morning to let you know that we understand…I understand and you are not alone.

🥳We celebrated Ms.Sara’s 88th birthday yesterday!🥳

We have had the honor of caring for this hilarious, upbeat, retired nurse and diehard Colts fan for many, many years now. Hosanna Home Helpers is so grateful for her tribe (our incredible caregivers) that have been there with her and continue to show up to provide quality-care.

Happiest Birthday Ms.Sara! We hope you loved your Colts jersey, flowers and cake.💕
