Today, on Maternal Health Awareness Day, we wish to highlight the critical role of radiology in monitoring pregnancy, diagnosing complications, and ensuring equitable care. 🫄🩺
By focusing on vital imaging: ultrasounds for fetal growth, placental health, and early detection of issues like gestational hypertension or diabetes, we can reduce preventable maternal deaths by performing timely interventions through advanced diagnostics. IU radiologists, while leveraging cutting-edge technology and data, work to improve maternal outcomes by supporting patient-centered care and addressing disparities, making imaging a cornerstone of comprehensive maternal-fetal medicine.
"Caring for our pregnant patients is among the most important work done in medicine, as we simultaneously affect the present and the future of our community's health. A focus on maternal health reminds us that our patients are also able to serve as caregivers, and the attention we give to their wellbeing redounds to the benefit of all." - Brandon Brown, MD, MA, FAAP, John W. Beeler Professor and Vice Chair, Director of Fetal and Perinatal Imaging at Riley Hospital for Children
