This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. As we reflect, we also recognize that this day can bring up complex emotions—especially for veterans, military families, and those who have experienced loss. During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to hold space for both remembrance and well-being. 💚

If today feels heavy, consider a few gentle ways to care for your mental health:
🕊️ Give yourself permission to feel—grief, gratitude, and everything in between
🕊️ Reach out to someone you trust or spend time with supportive people
🕊️ Take breaks from large gatherings if you need quiet moments
🕊️ Engage in a meaningful ritual, like lighting a candle or reflecting on a memory
🕊️ Practice grounding techniques if emotions feel overwhelming

You are not alone in what you’re feeling. Support is here when you need it.

NAMI Greater Indianapolis is here to provide connection, resources, and a safe space for healing—today and every day.

Every person has a story. Every story has the power to help someone else heal. 💚
This May, students partnered with NAMI Greater Indianapolis to interview our board members and volunteers about their mental health journeys and the impact of NAMI’s mission in our community.
These conversations are honest, vulnerable, hopeful, and deeply human — and they remind us why mental health awareness matters.
As a nonprofit organization, NAMI Greater Indianapolis relies on community support to continue offering free mental health education, advocacy, and support services. If you believe in the importance of these stories and this work, please consider making a donation to support our mission. https://namiindy.org/get-involved/donate/
Together, we can create a community where no one struggles alone.

Mental health struggles can feel isolating.

But millions of people are navigating similar experiences — and support is available.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, NAMI Greater Indianapolis reminds our community:

Seeking help is a sign of strength.💪

Whether through education, peer support, advocacy, or community connection, we are here to walk alongside individuals and families on the path toward recovery.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re turning silence into connection. 💙

Through this special video series, NAMI Greater Indianapolis is sharing the real stories of our board members, volunteers, and community advocates — stories of hope, healing, resilience, and recovery. Our first video features Robert Webster, Board of Directors member, Peer Support Leader, and fierce advocate for mental health services and housing access for underserved communities.

Mental health impacts all of us. When we share our experiences, we reduce stigma and remind others they are not alone.

If these stories move you, inspire you, or help you feel seen, we invite you to support the work NAMI Greater Indianapolis is doing every day in our community. Your donation helps us continue providing free education, advocacy, support groups, and mental health resources to those who need them most.

Donate today and help us continue the conversation. 💚

Children and teens experience mental health challenges too.

Early support, education, and understanding can change the course of a young person’s life.

On National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, NAMI Greater Indianapolis is helping raise awareness about the importance of:

• Early intervention
• Family education and support
• Reducing stigma for young people
• Access to youth mental health services

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow, thrive, and feel supported.
For parent and caregiver resources please visit https://namiindy.org/support-and-education/ or the SAMHSA webstie at https://www.samhsa.gov/mental-health/children-and-families

Talking to children about mental health and illness can be an opportunity for parents and caregivers to provide their children with information, support, and guidance. Mental and substance use disorders in families can impact family dynamics.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and NAMI Greater Indianapolis is proud to be part of the national NAMI “Do It Your Way” movement.

This month is all about raising awareness in a way that feels meaningful to you. There’s no one right way to show up for mental health. Whether it’s sharing your story, checking in on a friend, attending a support group, volunteering, or simply taking time to care for yourself, it all matters.

We invite you to take part in NAMI: Do It Your Way by choosing an action that fits your life and your voice. Every conversation, every act of support, and every moment of awareness helps break stigma and build a stronger, more connected community.

If you participate, we’d love to see it. Share what you’re doing and tag us so we can highlight the many ways our community is showing up for mental health.

Together, we can make mental health a priority for everyone.

This May, for Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re joining National Alliance on Mental Illness in this year’s theme: Turning Silence Into Connection.

Your story matters. 💬
Your voice has power.

Mental health impacts everyone in our communities. Your experience, your journey, and your voice can help break stigma, build understanding, and create hope and healing for others.

✨ Stigma grows in silence. Healing begins in community.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage you to share your story—whether that’s with a trusted friend, in a support group, or within your community. By opening up, you help turn silence into connection and remind others they are not alone.

To share your story via video: https://vocalvideo.com/c/nami-stigma-silence-healing-community
To share your written story: https://www.nami.org/stay-connected/events/awareness-events/mental-health-awareness-month/mental-health-awareness-month-story-submissions/
