Please donโ€™t ask me about the traffic this afternoon. I want to know about your emotional intelligence.

โ€‹If you are a high-achiever who also hates superficial banter, it could be because your system is naturally craving real, authentic connection instead of some superficial social performance. It can feel so fake to talk about the weather ... when your body is holding onto trauma responses to something that happened to you when you were 17. And if that's you, I'm with you.

I have the privilege of sitting with some of the most intense things humans can experience. Itโ€™s so hard for me to switch that off and then talk to the woman in front of me in line at the grocery store about the weather. ๐Ÿซ  Anyone else?? Therapist or otherwise?

"You'd be so proud of me."

Trust that I am proud of you every single time! More than you probably even know.

There is something that happens in my chest when a client walks in and leads with that sentence. Because I know what it took to get there. I know what they were carrying six months ago. I know the sessions where nothing changed, but they showed up anyway. I know the moments they almost talked themselves out of coming back.
And then, one day, they did the thing. They had the hard conversation or said no or set the boundary. They got through the week without the coping mechanism they've been trying to put down. They felt something they'd been avoiding for years and survived it.

And they came in to tell me?!

That moment is why I love this work.

I don't say this enough, but I am genuinely proud of every single one of my clients. Not because they're performing healing for me. It's not even remotely about me. Because they keep showing up for themselves even when it's hard and that's everything. ๐Ÿ’™ I can't HELP but feel proud of you. Proud FOR you. I hope you feel that too!

I am genuinely my most motivated self when someone dismisses somatic therapy or Brainspotting as "woo woo" or "not evidence-based." ๐Ÿ˜‚

Brainspotting was developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It's been studied across trauma, PTSD, anxiety, addiction, and performance enhancement. The research is there...with the results.

But also, my clients' nervous systems don't lie. When someone tells me they slept through the night for the first time in three years? HELL YEAH!

Nervous system dysregulation doesn't always look like panic attacks and breakdowns.

Sometimes it could look like never fully relaxing or waking up at 3am for no reason or getting overwhelmed by things that "shouldn't" be a big deal. Feeling tired no matter how much you sleep.

It can look a lot like just being a stressed out adult in 2025.

But there's a difference between situational stress and a nervous system that's been stuck in survival mode for a long time. And that difference matters a lot because the approach to healing is completely different.

Save this if it named something. Share it with someone who needed a name for what they've been feeling. ๐Ÿ’™

High-functioning anxiety is real, and exhausting.

The cruel joke of it is that the more capable you are, the more you pile on. And the more you pile on, the less anyone suspects you're struggling. Because you never drop the ball.

You just quietly carry everything until your body starts doing the dropping for you.

The jaw tension, the 3am wake ups, the wine that became less of a treat and more of a requirement...and the gym grind that feels more like running FROM something than running toward it.

This could be survival mode looking a WHOLE lot like productivity.

You are not broken or too much. And you're NOT failing at life.
