Okay so I have seen this picture making its way around social media. Some might not like this take but I very strongly disagree with rehoming only being a option after death. We have a problem with providing adequate resources to our community of dog guardians. A responsible dog guardian will make the best choice for the dog, not themselves or for the sake of their own feelings - feeling uncomfortable. Your dog needs and deserves medical care and food (so do you btw). We do not make this readily accessible for people. Sometimes the dog needs to be rehomed because it is the most compassionate act for the dog. There are dozens of other scenarios where rehoming your dog is the kindest and softest way to provide for them. If your dog has behavioral challenges that make them unable to safely be a part of your family - rehoming is a great option, once you have consulted with a veterinary behavioralist (if you can afford the $500+) and exhausted all the support you were able to receive. If your dogs energy level or breed specific characteristics are not compatible with your family’s lifestyle and you have a dog whose needs are not and will not ever be met / there is NO shame in finding your dog a forever family that can meet their needs. If you are getting evicted/struggling with stable housing, mental or physical health challenges that leave you unable to care for yourself or others or impending incarceration- rehoming might be the right choice for your family. Or not. I’m not advocating for rehoming I am advocating for detaching the shame l, judgement and stigma attached to it. We need more services - more community care - less shelter funding - more funding to low cost medical care for dog guardians - access to pet friendly/affordable housing - justice reform - breed specific education - ending backyard breeding and/or selling dogs. I am going to challenge you all to spend your weekend seeing how you can effectively meet your own dogs needs and think about the capacity in which you are able to help others do so as well.

Reunited with my baby after almost 2 weeks separated! In LA and ready to book some board and trains for July and August! By board I mean in my house living like one of my dogs and by train I mean full days of canine enrichment and working towards goals we all set together!! TW: Be******ty

Sunshine did not make it. The vet called in the middle of her surgery and told me that she has a large tumor and she wouldn’t even know where to start to remove it. She said the most humane thing to do would be to euthanize while she is already under. The vet also confirmed what we were told - the dog has been sexually assaulted by a human. Her malnutrition, trauma from abuse and size of her tumor meant that the last 24 hours she had - that were filled with love and care - will be how she remembers her life. Thank you for all of your support. Her vet bills will be paid and her memory will be a blessing.

6 year wedding anniversary today with my favorite person. I’m so happy Asa has your face and spirit. You are without a doubt the exact human who I am supposed to spend my life with. The way you support absolutely everything I do and want to do is almost hard to digest. Every time I think I have finally have that dream that is too big or that idea that is too wild you say to me - babe let’s make it happen together. You never ever make me feel like I am too much. I love how you spend all of your time listening to podcasts and ranting about structural violence. I love how you spend so much time with your students making sure they are treated with compassion and respect. I love watching you explain things to Asa in the same way you explain things to your college students and she just looks at you and goes “yup”. I love how god damn good looking you are. I love how you take care of our family and don’t go to bed until you feel like the house is clean enough for Asa to start her morning free from chaos. I love how you treat our animals and truly trust me when it comes to bringing anymore four legged creatures into our home. I love the way your brain works and how you see the world. You are me best friend and still my favorite person to hand out with. Can’t wait to hang with you and get to love you forever.

The last 24 have been WILD. This is a mastiff we got from severe abuse and neglect. Turns out she is pregnant but the fetus’s are dead and causing her pain and will kill her her. We took her to the vet this am. We got her a checkup, ultrasound, blood work and working on a emergency c-section to save her life as we speak. We named her Sunshine and she has a long road of healing in front of her. In the mean time we have a long list of expenses for her and need help!! Link to PayPal is in my stories and in comments. Between her and our other dogs emergency vet visit over a dog fight last night we are back to credit cards and care credit. Please consider making a monthly contribution to help with our rescue efforts. If you think rescuers are in it for for cash and glory - I would love to chat with you about the reality of this life.

Okay LA let’s get it started. It’s pride month and Liberation Dog Training is q***r as hell!! We are excited to roll out this new weekly event where your dogs will socialize with other dogs the RIGHT way. There will be trainers there paying attention to all the dogs behavior cues and working on calm/appropriate play with your dog. There is a limited number of spots so send a interest email and we will get you on the list!! Your dog must be fully vaccinated, fixed and not have displayed dog on dog aggression. I’m hanging out with these three pups for the next week. Their mom had a terrible experience at a boarding/doggy daycare that resulted in one of her dogs crossing the rainbow bridge. She is a committed, involved dog guardian and wants to do what is best for them when she goes out of town. We don’t typically house sit in clients home but this was special - these dogs are special - their mom is special. The really cool thing is the first dog Peanut, was adopted from about 6 months ago. While I’m house sitting these pups I have the opportunity to work with Peanut on some typical puppy behavior. Playing toooo mouthy, still having some potty accidents and teaching him calm are all on my list for this stay.
